Hi!  I’m moving house soon, and we are making sure to purchase a house with an extra room for Dusty.  We are buying a play pen to attach to his cage and I wanted to ask about the option of buying a cat condo for him to play with.  I was considering one like this:

I was thinking maybe the platform at the top could be where he could eat breakfast and dinner?  I just wanted to ask if this was the kind of thing a bun would enjoy.  Dusty loves to climb and his favorite spot in his cage is the shelf that he hops and flops on.  He adores feeling tall and is constantly on the sofa, coffee table, various chairs, and on the top of the stairs, so I think he would like this.  And he isn’t big on chewing carpet, so I think this would be fun for him.  Opinions would be great, thanks!

I don’t think this is a good idea. I would buy a NIC Cage, because they are the cheapest and best. Best of luck

Some buns really do love hanging out high up. The only thing I would say is that make sure the pen is pretty tall so he isn’t able to jump off the platform and over the pen.  I built my large pen out of NIC grids 3 high but depending on how high that platform is you could go 4 high.  A store bought pen isn’t typically higher than 29/30 inches which wouldn’t be tall enough I don’t think, especially if he is used to jumping up on things.  Also, the platform is really the only part of that that he can hang out on, since the rest just basically a ramp. You could build a platform for much cheaper I would think and cover it with carpet remnants, or you could get a cardboard castle/playhouse that has more for him to interact with. Just thoughts. Here is the pen I built for Albert. The entire things plus the zip ties cost me 80.  I bought two store bought play pens previously for 50 each and they ended up being way to short and flimsy. Wish I had known about the grids sooner.  My pen is about 45 square feet of space.  You probably don’t need that much since it sounds like he is able to have free roam play time. Mine needs to stay in his pen full time so I had to build it super large.  I used 3 boxes of grids but you might not need that much at all.

I think he’d really like it, with Kbana’s considerations in mind

My bunnies would love that… They have floating shelves up to their bedroom window. I had to block off one end to prevent acrobatics onto the storage shelves in the corner but other than that it is one of their favourite places to hang out.

I’m sure he’ll love it! Seems like a great toy for him. My rabbits would love it. I have considered getting them one of those cat things with the hole at the top with a floor and a hole at the bottom for them to play or nap in.

Thanks so much everyone! And Roberta, the floating shelves sound awesome! Do you mind if I steal that idea when I build his enclosure?
