ive bought my bunny bentley (3 years old) 3 salt licks and he wont go near them. sometimes i shove them in his face and he just hops away. ive tried giving him mineral blocks to but he wont eat them. he wont chew his chew toys or chew wires i leave near him or furniture or anything.. he eats lots of timothy hay though. since he wont lick his salt wheels can i sprinkle some table salt on his veggies and fruit when i give it to him ?

Rabbits don’t need salt or mineral licks which is why most bunnies ignore them.
Don’t add salt to his food, he doesn’t need it and it’s not good for him.

Truthfully all living things need salt to some degree. One of my rabbits enjoys the Himalayan salt licks (the pink crystal looking ones) and my other rabbit doesn’t but there is some salt in their pelleted food so they are getting their daily amount.

There’s salt in his pellets. He doesn’t need a lick or mineral block so no worries.

There is absolutely no need what so ever to give your bunny a salt/mineral wheel. The only thing a rabbit needs is a good balanced diet of pellets, veggies, fresh drinking water and hay. The pellets will have the salt he needs anyways. A salt/mineral lick may be a good idea if he has an all-hay diet. Some people do feed their bunnies only hay but I don’t recommend it. Without getting pellets he does not have the needed nutrients and minerals he would if he did. Some people think that rabbits live longer if they just have hay in their diet…not true.

My boy has a ‘salt lick’, buying it before I came across BB. It was suggested it wasn’t necessary, but because I bought one I used it. Henry does enjoy it, and when it ran out I did buy him a new one. And that was only cause he ‘does’ use it. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother. It is not necessary. But, if like Henry, he appreciates it – go for it. Otherwise, just chuck it out. Each bun to their own. Cheers.

Maybe I’m naive, but I trust Ziggy to know what he needs. If I give him something (healthy) and he doesn’t eat it, I won’t force it. He has a salt lick and a mineral lick. I think he’s tried them once. They are just tied to his cage so they are there if he ever changes his mind on them. He’s only 3-4lbs so along with his unlimited hay he gets a 1/4 c of pellets and a hand full (maybe 2 if he’s being extra cute) of leafy greens a day. I buy the bag of mixed greens so he always gets a variety.
