        Hey guys,

Pickles was being treated for stasis lately because he hasn’t been eating like he normally does.  He seems better now after 3 days of CC and some medication.  He is finishing his greens and eating hay.  However, I read a lot on tooth purring vs tooth grinding, and all I can find is that tooth grinding is typically accompanied with a hunched sitting position.  I want to know how the two SOUND different other than one is louder and the other is softer.. I’ve been trying to find sound clips or videos and I can’t find anything.  Can anyone help describe the difference to me?? For example, maybe it sounds like the chewing noises bunnies make when they eat hay ??

        Thanks !

When Leopold was grinding his teeth, it almost sounded like he was chewing on something he wasn’t supposed to (like plastic or something). Purring is more of a soft “clicking” sound, I guess. I don’t know if that helps at all.

When my rabbits tooth purr I can’t really hear it unless I put my head very close, like right by their cheeks. I can just feel it through my fingers. Right before we rushed Korra to the vet she was tooth grinding and it could be heard across the room. It was a very gratingly painful sound.

Tooth purring is a gentle, chewing sound that tends to be done in waves “purr purr purr…pause… purr purr….pause”. Grinding is a loud, chatter that is more constant. I find that tooth purring is more gentle and relaxed, while the grinding is a more aggressive, unpleasant sound.

Do a YouTube search for “bunny tooth purr” and you should be able to find some vids.
