I feel like my bun would be a lot happier with more space and toys (the only toys she has hang from the ceiling of her cage). I was thinking about bunny-proofing my rec-room, so I can play video games/paint/whatever while she plays, but, as I said, I have no toys for her. What are some inexpensive toys I could make/buy for her? Cash is kinda tight because of the holidays, and I don’t have many options at my local pet store.

Cardboard is a wonderful toy for rabbit. soda boxes and paper towel rolls if you get the glue off. or just a normal size box. my bun go crazy for boxes. also old phone books are fun and towels. just be careful with them ingesting too much of their toys. its normal for them to chew it up but eating a large amount of a towel could be dangerous. and make sure to take any tape off a box first. tape could stop them up inside.

You can also fill a paper lunch bag with hay and they will try to get it torn open to get to the yummy stuff inside. Not a toy so much, but something to keep them occupied.

Also when filling the paper bag with hay you could also put in a few pellets with it my rabbits have enjoyed that. My rabbits play with most of the stuff mentioned. They do love boxes. They like toilet paper rolls filled with hay also.

Even if you just grab a branch – like a willow branch – they’ll chew on it for hours…mine love it… Completely free, just make sure it wasn’t sprayed with pesticides (so in the woods is good, off the highway or in town is not.)

I found a toy that literally brings hours of enjoyment for my Dizzie. It’s also hilarious for her slaves to watch her play with. Its one of those cat toy balls (or could be a dog toy) that you fill with treats or pellets and they have to roll it to get the food out. The one I have has adjustable holes in it so I can make the holes smaller or bigger depending on what I put it in it. Dizzie rolls that thing around for hours…its so stinking cute!! She also picks it up and flings it around the room, which in turn, makes my hubby “giggle,” which I always enjoy. I bring it out every few days so it seems “new” everytime I do it. My boys like to play in cardboard hidey houses and jump on things, so I go them some of the smaller cat condo’s. The one’s I have are about a foot and a half high. Cardboard boxes that you can make tunnels and stuff out of are the simplest and cheapest ways to go! Look at the store here, on the website, for some things and ideas. Untreated wood is also fun for them…they can chew it up (which helps keep their teeth trimmed) and they can toss it around. My Dizzie also likes paper in a box that she can rip up and tear through. Sometimes just trying random things will find a really cool toy and sometimes you will try things and your bunny wont even look at it. Its fun to figure out what your bunny actually likes….you’ll be surprised at what simple things you can find around your house that will make your bunny be happy.
