my bunny is 3 and lives downstairs in a cage. hes out whenever im home which is usually 5+ hours a day and he gets access to the whole basement to play in. when hes out he just runs around and eats hay or lays down and plays with news paper, i put out fresh wood and chewing toys but he never goes near them. when hes in his cage he never plays with his toys he just eats or sleeps. ive bought him so many wooden chew toys and baby key rings and little blocks and balls to play with but nothings working.. is there any way to make him chew on the toys.. he doesnt have teeth problems and ive tried putting apple sticks and stuff on his chew skeewers to make him want to play with them but that doesnt work either ? is this normal ?

If he is eating hay that is what important for teeth not chew toys or wood so he should be fine.

I will say that when rabbits age they may have dental problems NO MATTER WHAT because of loss of bone density but the bottom line is that hay is what helps wear down the molars.

Yep, I wouldn’t worry if your bun doesn’t chew on wood. If you want, you can make a stationary chew block that won’t move, that might be more enticing. It really isn’t necessary though unless you bun wants a project to work on. My buns like to toss toys around, like their baby keys. But sometimes I have to hand the toy to them and then they toss. They don’t always want to play by themselves.

My bunnies don’t enjoy wood chew toys. I think most buns prefer things that are flavoured like bunny safe apple twigs or willow toys.

I agree with Sarita. A lot of bunnies will have teeth problems as they age, especially flatter faced bunnies like my Bindi. He needs regular molar trims and he eats a lot of hay.
