So my rabbit Daisy has had a panic attack! Her and her sister were free ranging when suddenly Daisy froze in the corner and her eyes got so wide you could see almost all of the whites beyond her gray eyes. Then she started running in crazy circles. This isn’t the first time she’s had them, but this is the first time I noticed since before I was always so busy with her 5 other siblings and thought she was just playing around. (which was really bad on my part) The other problem is that when she has a panic attack, her sister Socks gets scared too and she just freezes, her ears pointed straight up. Today was her worst one though. Normally, she cools down on her own in a minute or less, but today I had to grab her and take her outside so she would calm down. She wouldn’t calm down unless I put a rag on her eyes, too. Should I do that or no? I am really scared. After she cooled down though, I brought her back in and free ranging time was over for both of them. Then she just hopped right over to the bowl and started eating pellets. Could the reason for her panic attacks be not having her mother for most of her life so far? (Her mother abandoned them at three weeks, shortly before her minor freak-outs began) Or could it be the short run in she had with a hawk? (long story) After that I found her wedged between two fences, wet, and cold.

I also have another question about Daisy. Daisy and Socks are now 2 1/2 months old, and Daisy will just walk into the corner of her cage and flop down, then start twisting and rubbing herself on the bedding. Is that normal? Is it something I should be concerned about? She also licks EVERYTHING. My hands, her toys, the floor, the file cabinet, crates, boxes, the bars of her cage. Before she was weaned she used to lick and I thought it was just a phase because she wanted milk, but she still licks. Should I be concerned?

        THANK YOU!

Hmm, are you sure it isn’t a seizure of some sort?

As for the licking, young bunnies like to explore things with their mouths. So they will nibble and lick things in order to check them out.

My Mini Rex used to run full speed in little circles but it was an enjoyment thing, because sometimes there would be binkies. Are you sure she’s really afraid?

It’s not a seizure. She had another panic attack today but I managed to grab onto her before she started running and I calmed her down. Thanks for the info about the licking though. Do you think she’ll get over it though when she’s older?

I don’t think it’s an enjoyment thing because she freezes up and you can see the whites of her eyes.

when shes running is she running into things the wall furniture etc?  Or is she jumping running one way then the next kicking up her hind legs etc?

When my boy has a panic attack he bangs himself into things I have to throw a towel on him to catch him once in my arms he is calm I don’t have to remove him from the room or anything just pet and talk to him.

when he plays he runs one way then the other real fast jumps kicks out his legs a couple of times.

a seizure is possible with your girl.  some lionheads are prone to that.  None of mine were but I do know some are.

She does run into things but because she is still kind of small she doesn’t really do any serious damage. She’s not a lionhead, so I don’t think it’s a seizure. But thanks anyway.
