I don’t think Cookie, my rabbit, is eating. Yesterday at around 4:00 I gave him his veggies, and he acted like his normal self. However, for the first time he  did not completely finish his veggies. I decided to wait and see if he would finish them later. And he did. Then in the evening I opened his pen for playtime. Usually the second I open his pen he comes running out. But that time it took him maybe about a minuet and a half before he came running out. But once he was out, he was playing and binking like crazy. He then spent half of playtime chowing down on hay. When it was dinner time, I gave him his dinner in his pen and closed it up. He was full of enthusiasm when I was bringing the pellets, and was also full of enthusiasm when he began eating his pellets. But he only ate a little, and then hopped away into his tunnel. He normally finishes most of his pellets and comes back a few minutes later to finish them. So I decided to check on him in the morning to see if he finished them. This morning I went a little early than breakfast time, like I always do, to check on him. The pellets were still there, but I am not sure if he ate some of them or not. Usually by this time he would either be in his litter box or standing in front of the door to his pen waiting for me. Instead I found him in his tunnel. I offered him a pellet from his dish repeatedly and even a piece of Romane Lettuce, but every time he turns away. He even got so annoyed with me to the point that he hoped away from me and jumped on to his hideout. I don’t know what to do. Does he have a gas attack, or is he getting GI Status? I really can’t take him to the vet unless it is absolutely necessary.  I have literally taken him to my exotic vet seven times in almost seven months, and each time he turned out perfectly healthy. He didn’t seam to be sick at playtime yesterday. I checked his water dish to see if he drank anything, but I can’t really tell. But I do know he drank some water last night. I also found a few fresh poops in his litter box and one that spilled out onto the floor. I don’t know if this has to do with Cookie’s behavior, but I picked up Cookie on Monday evening evening from bunny sitting at Bunny Bunch because I had gone on vacation. I really trust Bunny Bunch. So again what should I do? I am really worried and am not sure what to do?

Well it sounds like he’s pooping but what you can do to check is to clean the current litter box and then check it later.

Usually if they are eating they are pooping.

            Thankyou,

I will do that. Also should I just wait and see if he will finish his pellets, or start acting now? I don’t want him to have gas and I don’t know. Should I give him a warm water bottle? He already has tons of blankets in his pen. He lives in our furnished garage, so it is a little cooler in there then the house. I also noticed that he keeps laying out and seems to have his stomach pressed against the floor, and every time I pet his head he turns around and does the same thing. Other times he just sits crouched on the floor. Also he is still in his tunnel.

Sorry, one more thing. I think I might have heard a gurgle noise from Cookie’s stomach. So I gave him two warm water bottles. I am also wondering if I should pick up some simithicone today because it is way past breakfast and he still did not finish his dinner?

I’d give mine simethicone if they were behaving like your bun. And tummy-rubs. A hot-water-bottle that he has space enough to move away from is good.

When bunnies relax they tend to lie with their bellies “spread out” on the floor. It’s not in itself a sign of illness.

Keep checking his droppings, peeing, intake of fluids and food. If possible offer him sth extra yummy like fresh mint.

A sudden change of environment can be stressful for a bunny, no matter how excellently he’s cared for by his sitters.

Best of luck and keep us updated!

                  Thankyou so much,
I will pick up some simethicone today. I have not seen him drink water in a while so should I force feed him some? I do have a very small syringe that I used when we that he had a respiratory infection. Also, how often am I supposed to give him simithecon and how much. Sorry, I have never dealt with gas attacks in rabbits. I tried to give him some tummy rubs, but he kept jumping off. Maybe I will try picking him and doing them. But I do not want to stress him out. Thankyou again. I will keep watching him.

Can I get simethicone from the petstore? If not, I guess I will have to drive to Bunny Bunch.

You can get simethicone at the drugstore. It’s in the section for like stomach meds. I use the brand Ovol.

                        How long since he’s eaten?

                            Thank you all,

Before He was not eating as much as normal but started not eating or drinking at all. But now Cookie has now been doing much better. Earlier he drank tons of water, some hay, and some veggies. I also gave him 0.5 ml of simethicone, and a tube of critical care mixed with warm water. After he had drank some water, he had gross diariah in his litter box. Is this normal. He hasn’t had Diariah since then. We also have the heater running and two warm water bottles in his pen. In a little I will give him another 0.5ml of simithecone and a little more critical care. Should I give him a little bit of pellets? He usually has pellets at night. Or should I just stick to the simethicone and critical care. As far as I can tell, he seems to be much better. I will keep you all updated and hopefully he will be back to normal by tomorrow.

I am glad to say that Cookie is pretty much back to normal. When I woke up this morning, he was running around for breakfast. He ate most of his pellets and then came back for the rest. He is also drinking water. He seems to be peeing fine. His poops look fine, except that they are a little smaller than they usually are. He ate a little bit of hay, but I think that is normal because he prefers to attack his hay at night. I gave him a little more of the simethicone this morning just in case. Do you think I should give him playtime tonight? I am pretty sure he is in the mood to play. Now that it is noon he is loafing. So again he is pretty much back to himself. Hooray!!! I just hope he will eat hay tonight!!!!
