I wanted to make a pen for my bunny out of nic cubes similar to this:

My question is, how does the bottom of the nic grid attach to the floor/puzzle mat? Ive highlighted the area in red to show what i mean. Does it just stand up on its own or has the person attached the bottom of the grid to the mat in some way. Wouldnt the walls just topple over if the bottom was not supported by anything?

The walls are really quite strong if you make a complete shape with corners. The cubes are heavy enough to hold themselves down if you use lots of zip ties.
Be careful if you use those mats, they can cause blockages if ingested.

Porky’s condo with a porch area similar to that pen is not attached to the floor in anyway. His out door pen also just sat on the grass untied down. It’s never posed any problems.

If you make a four walled pen, it’ll support itself. For my bun’s pen I used some panels to make a 2nd lv, and it’s strong enough to support a rabbit. The magic of zip ties and physics lol

I had a very similar setup as that but had to get rid of that flooring because mine liked to eat it. I also had to fasten the walls to something or put weights against the walls on the outside or they would push the cage around the room and escape. My rabbits enjoy busting out of a pen that isn’t 100% rabbit proof though so that could just be me.
