Felix has gotten the habit of sitting outside of Mortimer’s cage like he is standing guard. He just sits there, or even meatloafs in front for hours. Does this mean something?

Probably to Felix, and maybe to Mortimer, but bunnies can be inscrutable.

I can say that they are creatures of habit, and sitting or meatloafing for hours is a sign that he is quite comfortable. I suspect that it’s companionable relaxation. If it’s mostly during the day, that’s a time when bunnies rest, nap or hang out quietly. They probably feel nice and cozy and secure knowing the other one is there.

My Henry has dogs for his companions, and he often snoozes next to one or the other through the day. I honestly believe he appreciates the company. Otherwise he would spend the whole day under my bed (his second bed). I think it’s sweet!

They both aren’t neutered yet, so I didn’t think they would be so docile with each other. If they do happen to get out when the other is too, its a “let me dominate you” rally. I put a blanket over Mortimer’s cage and Felix freaked out. He kept digging at it and eventually jumped on top of Mortimer’s cage just to look at him.

Yep, I just think it’s companionship regardless of a piece of wire between them. For example Henry won’t always lay right next to the dogs (but he does, dopey bunny, lol), he will sometimes just lay in the same room/area with them. When he’s under my bed for his morning nap, as soon as he wakes up and realizes we are no longer there, he comes straight out to where we are – my goodness, he may be missing out on something?!?!? Henry was like this both before and after he was neutered. So yer, I think he just appreciates the company of his own kind? As I said before, I think it’s sweet….. (big smile).

It could be that he just likes to be close to another bunny, and that makes him feel comfortable.

They are also creatures of habit and once they find a place that they like to sit, they will sit there every day for hours sometimes. One of mine is like that.

Felix is a lot like that. He has “his spots”. Mortimer is more of a “I’ll run all over the whole house and never sit still”.
