I recently adopted 2 extremely loving mini rex/mini lop mixed girls Apollo and Rafiki. I have a couple of things that have been worrying me for a while so I’ll start with aggression. One morning I woke up to them circling each other I then immediately separated the two and noticed a little cut on the smaller ones lip. ( They are in separate cages and have not been in contact for 2 months now. I do plan on getting them spayed and eventually bonding them) After the incident Apollo (the one with the cut) is more distant from me and I was wondering if it would be because I separated the two or if its hormones kicking in. Another one of my worries is about a month ago I noticed Rafiki has been a little messy in her cage (she is litter boxed trained and still is she just has a lot of accidents) She has been urinating on the outside of her littler box and the color of the urine has went from a slight red color to bright orange with a little red. Up to about a week ago it was once every week and now it is daily. (multiple times) I don’t know if this matters or not but when she does its a lot so it runs in the cage and it gets on most of her toys. Should I then get rid of the toys and get new ones or is it still safe for her to keep playing with them if I rinse them off with water.. Their diet hasn’t been the best one but I do feed them fresh hay and pellets daily and I let them have carrots and lettuce on occasion ( I haven’t gave them any veggies for the last week to determine if the carrots have been the culprit for rafikis crazy urine color) If anyone is having the same issue or has some answers it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for reading-Ash

The color change sounds normal for urine – rabbits urine can be white, yellow, brown, red, orange – many times it due to oxidation when it hits the air. I would not worry about it.

Just wash the toys – no need to run out and buy new toys.

Ah thank you! Now all I have to do is get her use to me cleaning her cage out everyday (she is a little diva and runs around in the cage whenever I am doing so.)

I have a little tinkle queen over here and I’ve suspected it could be a urinary problem of some kind so I picked up some Oxbow Urinary Support supplement from Petsmart and am giving it a trial to see if it helps her frequent floor peeing. Trust me its awful when the toys get the pee. Mine have these wooden kabob toys and I just rinse them in hot water and let them dry out. I throw plastic toys in the dishwasher.

I actually just ordered the Oxbow Urinary Support supplement about a week ago and I haven’t noticed any changes in the color. However I have noticed that she is starting to hide the pee under her litter box.. BUT on a good note she only did it once this weekend and I am so proud of her

I’ve noticed a little less cage peeing and more box peeing on my end. I think her incontinence could have been due to pain or something, but she always seems to make it look deliberate. Stinky little brat she is. Anyway I’d use the whole canister to give it a fair trial. Bella loves getting her “cookies” twice a day and luckily my other bunny doesn’t even like them so she doesn’t try and eat them.

Its been a full week and Rafiki has only done it once so shes being a pretty good girl so far! I also got the joint support ones as well and my bunnies go so crazy over the taste of them.. They sometimes drop the urinary ones and beg for the other ones first :p Another thing I have noticed is that the urine smell has kind of gone away so its an extra bonus

Sounds like you are having a positive experience! I’ve got spotty performance. One day, no pee on the floor and the next day there are several pees in just a couple of hours. :/

Well so far it looks like she may be over the peeing on the floor issue. (Shes a messy bun and likes to spin in her litter box and spread everything around her cage) Lately that has kind of stopped to! I also have had problems with picking her up whenever i take her to the playroom and she seems to not worry as much. So all and all shes a happy bun (:
