I caught Bunnicula eating about a quarter size bite of the bedding. Should I be concerned? Still eating everything in sight and doesn’t seem disrupted by it.

I have since removed the bedding. Tries to add a picture, but it says the file is too big and I’m on my phone. But it’s a soft cottony feel that came with a cardboard tube we bought at Petsmart.

        Thanks!

Make sure that your bunny eats plenty of hay and greens and that he is pooping normally. That small piece of bedding will likely pass through him with no problem if he eats lots of fiber rich foods. Keep a close eye on him and make sure he continues to eat and poop as much as he always does.  If you did notice any change in his behavior or if he stopped or slowed down in his eating, that would be a cause for concern.  Many rabbits that I’ve known and that I’ve read about in these forums, have eaten things they shouldn’t, but they usually turn out to be fine.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the reply. I will definitely keep an eye out. Bunnicula is a new edition to the family so we’re constantly staring into the cage.

The cardboard tubes are usually stuffed with something called cozy bedding, which actually is cotton. It’s good you removed it, as it can cause blockages in bunnies if they eat too much cotton. But, he should be OK just eating one piece.

You could get him a fleece blanket to use. That might be a little safer. Unless he eats the blanket. LOL

Yes – Henry ate his fleece blanket! Naughty bunny!!!! Just stuck with the newspaper and catalogues in the bottom of his house with straw at one end if he wants to snuggle up in something? The stuff I have caught Henry eating (he even flipped my door mat over to chew on the rubber bottom) I’m surprised he’s still able to poop? But he does….. doh?
