So Penelope discovered our Rosemary plant today. It is on our covered porch most of the time, but I brought it in today so that I could water and prune it since the weather is getting chill here. She smelled it when I brought it in I guess and came hopping into the kitchen (hardwood floors be darned, haha) and tried to nibble at it. I quickly moved it out of her reach, but she is looking for it now and snuffling everywhere. Is it safe for her to eat? I just want to know how diligent I need to be about keeping her away from it.

Oh just for info sake, I have never used a pest control product or fertilizer on it and we eat it all the time in our rosemary bread that I make.

Rosemary is on the rabbit-safe list. Mine won’t eat it, I’ve several plants and they won’t survive winter here so I’ve tried feeding it to the the buns. But my spoilt little brats refuse to even taste it =/

Thanks for info, I guess I will give her a little since she is super interested in it.

As far as I know, rosemary is safe. Like Bam said though, some buns don’t like it.

Update: Penelope loves the rosemary! I only offer her a couple of leaves if she is doing something particularly well (i.e. litter box training is going fantastic!), but if she smells it she will literally run to the source of the smell,, this includes me after I have messed about pruning it or watering it. I am thinking to try other herbs such as basil. Any suggestions?

My little guy LOVES parsley, mint and cilantro, if that helps you decide.

I love the smell of rosemary too :~)

My rabbit Bogie loves Basil and Peppermint. Cilantro and parsley as well. Try arugula – I’ve had rabbits that have liked that as well.

My bunnies love all kinds of basil and mint, cilantro, parsley, dill, French tarragon, lemon balm and fennel. They don’t care for oregano, thyme, rosemary and lavender, although all those are rabbit safe.

I really want to see if she will eat the fennel. I love it and it would be nice not to have to toss the tops I think we will try basil and mint next. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I now have a bunny approved herbs list for the binder, lol.

Haha yeah, Powder goes just as nuts for mint. They can be persistent little things when they smell something they want.
