We are currently housing our bunny Penelope in a large dog crate and were wondering if it was big/tall enough for her. She doesn’t by any means live in the crate. The crate is in a bunny proof room that we are working towards making her own i.e. fully carpeting the room as it is only partially carpeted and we have hardwood floors and making it more fun for her playtimes with toys, ramps etc. When she is in the crate during the day the door is always open so that she can come and go as she pleases. Mostly, we were wondering if it is ok to house her in for the eight hours that we are sleeping. We plan on getting an x pen for her at night or just letting her be free in her room once we have established good litter box habits and she is more comfortable in her new surroundings (we have only had her for a week). But, for now what do you guys think of the size of this crate?

For now, the size looks fine… Based on her size in comparison.

Generally for a single rabbit you want 4′ X 2′, 8 sq ft. Another rule of thumb for cage size is you want them to be able to hop 3 times without having to turn around. For height you want them to be able to periscope.

It looks big enough to me especially with so much time out.

Thank you so much! That makes me feel better about shutting her in a night, although she already has us wrapped around her paw so I am sure that she will be roaming free in her room soon enough.
