I was thinking about getting one of those water bowls with an attached bottle on them- kind of like a gravity feeder but for water- for my buns. It has some kind of carbon filter on it, is that ok for rabbit use?

I don’t see how that would be harmful if the carbon filter is completely contained with no chance of the rabbits getting to it. Just to make it easier on myself, I use a crock which can easily be thrown in the dishwasher because I’m constantly washing those things and I change the water daily. My old neighbors used to have one of the bottle/bowl combos for their dogs and that thing was not super easy to clean and always grew algae. I had this problem when I used a water bottle previously. I’d get lazy and wouldn’t change it out every day and sometimes it got funky in there. Since that didn’t seem sanitary to me, I decided a ceramic water crock was my best bet. It encourages you to change it as the water levels get low and its just a quick rinse and refill. I even give my rabbits filtered water out of my Brita pitcher.

Bunnluff that’s why I ended up going from bottles to water bowls. I hated how difficult it was to clean thoroughly in the bottle and it would become slimy inside the bottle and I hated it. Crocks are just so easy to maintain and have full access for cleaning.

On filtered water, we have a brita filter which uses carbon as the filter agent and our buns get the filtered water and seem to enjoy it with no ill effects

We have a water bowl now, and it’s a pretty good size. However they enjoy throwing their bowls around and the water always get tipped over. -_- When they don’t tip it over, they go through the whole bowl in six hours. That’s why we were considering the gravity bowl thingy.

We purchased crocks that attach to the side of the cage. They are the bowls that are meant to attach to kennels for dogs or something so the buns can’t tip them over. It’s rather nice. They just twist on and off and no issues! We got two of them because the buns do drink quite a lot and we have to refill them half way through the day but hey, the water remains fresh that way :p I’ve noticed if they don’t drink all the water in the day I need to change it out anyways because there would be hair, hay, or other debris in it anyway. And that might be something you run into a lot with gravity watered. I run into it a lot with my dogs gravity waterer. I end up having to change the whole thing out because my dogs contaminate it with bits of food somehow lol

But in all, yes, you can have a filtered gravity waterer. It won’t hurt the buns

I use one of those and I’ve had it for a few weeks. I think it is awesome as well as easy to clean. You can take the filter out and pop all components in the dishwasher. The opening to the bottle is really quite large so is easy to get scrub brush in there too if needed. I have two that are on rotation as they were only 10 bucks each at Petco. No sliminess whatsoever. My bun can’t tip it and I change it about every three days and the water stays fresh. I got tired of him draining the big crock I was using and was always so paranoid that he would be out of water when I wasn’t home. I absolutely LOVE mine.
