Hi all!  I am currently using aspen shavings for litter.  But I find they are not very absorbent and the odour control isn’t great either.  Can anyone suggest a litter that has the best of both worlds?  So far I’ve only tried Yesterdays News and aspen shavings.  But I really don’t want to keep buy litter and not using it all.  The aspen is ok because I can still use it in my terrarium, so at least that won’t go to wait.

Some suggestions I’ve been given are:  Clumping Pine Cat Litter and Swheat Scoopable Litter (made from naturally processed wheat).  Has anyone actually used either of these for rabbits?  The advice came from cat owners.

Neither of those – they can both cause impaction – nothing that clumps.

Can you find some wood stove pellets without accelerant? Or some horse stall bedding – which is basically like wood stove pellets.

I use Exquisicat Pine and I used to use Yesterdays News for years. I just wanted to try something new. The pine pellets don’t reek of urine when I change the box. Which is a nice difference between the two.

I’m in the middle of the city so I don’t think I could find wood stove pellets. I’ll try the Exquisicat Pine if I can find it. Thanks!!

Our local big box stores (Lowes, Home Depot) do not carry WSP, but I drive out “into the country” about 20 minutes and the Lowes there carries them. It’s well worth the drive for the money savings. I only buy WSP once a year, I buy 6-7 bags at once so I’m stocked for the whole year.

It might be worth calling around to neighboring communities that are more “rural” than yours. If you can stock up for the whole year, then you don’t have to worry about it for a long time.

I have been using recently just layers of newspaper with hay. Now sometimes I sprinkle some yesterdays news on top of it because I have some to use up. I haven’t been noticing that my room smells like rabbit urine. I love yesterdays news because it last a long time and you don’t have to use alot try using newspaper.
