Hi, Which of these two is the healthier pellet?

        Oxbow: http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/products/type/detail?object=1550

        Martin Mills: http://www.martinmills.com/small_pets_rabbit_timothy_adult.php

There are some ingredients in both of them that make me wonder.  For example, molasses is the fifth ingredient in the first one.  I associate it with candy.  There are also big differences in the nutritional analysis.

As an added comment, the first ones are very hard and dense, the second ones are pouffy, much like dry cat food.

What are your thoughts on this?

Also, how many craisins should a medium sized rabbit get per day?  I gave my rabbit two yesterday.  They are one of the only things that will get him to leave his pen and venture forth.

        Thanks for your help!

Personally, I would pick Oxbow of those two. It has higher fiber and less fat in the analysis. They are kind of similar in the ingredients department because the first 5 listed are what makes up the majority of something. The first 4 are the same in both foods the 5th being sugar(molasses) in Oxbow and barley in Martin’s.

For fruit I think it’s 1 to 2 ounces per 6lbs body weight. A couple a day should be fine.

Thanks, MoveDiagonally! I’m not up on pellets, so this is very helpful. I will buy the Oxbow ones.

I agree. I feed Oxbow as suggested by the vet and have found the brand in general to be pretty reliable. Two craisins a day is just fine.

I used to feed Martins and my buns loved it. Then one day I opened a new bag to find it completely green with mold. It was not expired and I has just bought it. I threw it out and switched to Oxbow. I’ve been using Oxbow for years and never had a problem like that.

We use Oxbow, and Porky adores it. The hard crunchy texture is good for bunnies’ teeth. Their teeth grow constantly and need wearing down. In general I find Oxbow products to be high quality, but I have never compared it to Martinmills, since none of the stores around here carry Martinmills.
