I bought some food in a bag for buddie called COMPLETE MEAL.its a mixer of pellets and hay,and a few other crunchy treats that is supposed to be really good for them. I put some in his dish and he sniffed it and hopped away. I figured it was just a waist of 14 bucks.i didn’t put out lettuce or anyother snacks for him just to see if he would eat it…he always has a full supply of hay in his feeding box. I was sitting here on gplus and i seen him acting like he was eating it while looking at me. Putting his face in it,raising his head like he usually does after getting some in his mouth, but he wasnt chewing. He did this 3 times while looking at me. Ive never seen anything like this before.why was he pretending to eat while looking at me? Does this suggest he was trying to please me,but he didnt really want it? I always have so many different varieties of stuff for him to eat, carrates, apple slices, lettuce, hay. Are rabbits smart enough to think that he can fool me by pretending he’s eating?

Maybe he picked out something small that you couldn’t see? Or did he just have his nose in there sniffing around for anything he may like? I bought what I think may have been a simular mix for Henry – and he didn’t eat it, but had a good sniff around, made a huge mess, but noticed he picked up very small bits from the floor. Yep, wasted $15 and threw it out!

All of those “mixed” pellet brands aren’t very good for bunnies. You want to feed them a plain healthy pellet without extra bits in them. I’ve never heard of a rabbit “faking to eat” either so he might have just been sniffing or picking out the candy. What was he eating before? How did you switch over? Usually switching rabbit pellets takes about 3 weeks to avoid stomach upset.

I’m not sure where you are located but some US brands that are recommended for adult bunnies are Oxbow Essentials Adult, Kaytee Timothy Complete Adult, Kaytee Forti-Diet Adult, Oxbow Organic BeneTerra, Zupreem Nature’s Promise, Zupreem TImothy Naturals, and Sweet Meadow Timothy Pellets. There are some others that are a little outside the recommendations but are still considered good like American Pet Diner Timmy Rabbit, Oxbow Natural Science, Purina Fiber3 Rabbit Chow, and Sherwood Maintenance.

I think it’s possible he was pretending. My bun seems to always just start eating when I’m watching her…particularly with the hay, I don’t think she is all that keen on it but if I’m watching she will eat it and use her hay roller. But then if I look again later, it’s clear that she hasn’t touched it very much! I also tried mixing it in a little bit with her small amount of rabbit mix I feed her (the generic one that they sold at the pet store-doesn’t even have an ingredients list on the packet!) to get her to eat some. But I’m going to actually buy some of the Oxbow pellets instead because I’ve heard they’re the best if you’re going to be feeding your bunny pellets. Also I read some reviews and many people said that their bun preferred the taste of them.

What’s the reason you changed your rabbit’s food? None of mine pretend to eat, they just eat lol. Also depending on the store you can try returning it for a refund or exchange. Some are willing to work with you if your pet doesn’t like it.
