My bunny is shedding and as I was combing, I decided to look into his fur.

There’s no bald spot from the outside but as I look deeper, really deep, I found one tiny spot that seem to have some flakes. There was a bit of dry skin around it too.

I checked the other spots that were shedding, there wasn’t anything. he is also behaving normally with no excessive scratching

He sleeps with another bunny and the other bunny seems fine..

Do bunnies get dry skin during shedding?

        Thank you.

Could be dry skin, could be mites/fleas, it’s hard saying. Another thought is that the other bunny has been mounting/biting him. Is the bald spot on his back? My little Wooly will occasionally have a spot that flakes. At first I didn’t know what it was. When I showed the vet, she said it looked like my other rabbit (Leopold) had bit him there and the skin was flaking off. Not like full-blown scab (Wooly never bled or anything), but essentially that is what the flakes were. They were scabs falling off.

While ear mites may cause itching, fur mites may not and so a bunny may not scratch at fur mites.

I have seen dry flakes with some molting, but usually it’s if a big chunk of fur came out rather quickly (This can happen with over grooming) And LBJ10 had a good question about another bunny possibly pulling out fur. Just like she said, it may not create a big scab, but the fur being pulled out before it was ready can create some minor scabbing that can come off as flakes.

If it is from this, then it should heal pretty quickly. In a week or two if it has not improved or worsened then go to your vet.

Hi thanks so much for your replies! I have been monitoring, the spot is not spreading.
I think it could be like what you guys have mention, that the other Bunny had bit him there when he was mounting.
The other bunny tends to get overly excited when I’m about to feed them their pellets, and he start nipping him a bit.
Thank you! I feel much relieved now
