        Hi everyone,

Rex is our first bunny and I have been looking a websites and noticed that there are a lot of salt licks on the market.  He is only about 12 weeks old and I was not sure if I need to get him a salt lick or wait until he is older.  Any advice?

It’s unnecessary. There is salt in pellets

A salt-lick won’t hurt any, but they are unnecessary for bunnies. Like NBO said, they can get all the salt they need from their pellets. Most bunnies won’t bother with a salt-lick anyway.

As everyone else said, salt licks won’t help and won’t hurt. I have a small salt lick for one of my rabbits because she seems to enjoy it but the rest don’t care about salt licks and ignore them.

They’re a can’t hurt type thing, and at 99c usually you can’t go wrong. That said I’ve provided them in the past and mine haven’t bothered with them. In a reduced pellet diet they may be more essential, as hay and vegetables may not provide enough salt.
The caution is that a bored animal may lick and lick out of boredom and get more then is needed which would be an issue. You can try providing one and if it’s used too much or not at all, remove it
