As most of you know Mme Nermal De Nomnoms was spayed last Friday so It now 4.5 days since… I checked her incision this morning and it’s nice and clean. My vet glues instead of stitches….

Noms cage is on a stand and she uses a steeply inclined ramp to access it, in fact she pelts up and down the ramp with glee… Is it too soon to let her use the ramp again ? (Nomnoms is my first spay, the rest have been neuters)

Its going to be very hot tomorrow (over 35C/95F and it’s not even Summer yet) and it is easier to cool the cage than the play area.. (Thank heavens the AC unit goes in during the next few days)

So what do you all think… Is it OK for her to return to stampeding up and down her ramp ?

I gave Olivia a few days of condo rest and then let her play in the living room. I blocked off the couch to minimize jumping. I’m not sure about a ramp, I’m guess it would be okay, but don’t want to tell you yes or no, just in case. Can you sort of guide her up the ramp, to slow her down so she does’t go crazy zoomy?

Yesss… That’s what I am worried about… Noms loves her cage and her favourite game is bunny pinball around the shelves… Noms can have full access to the play area but it’s so much more fun to have the whole cage shaking like a shimmy shack.

Just giving this a bump in the hope that someone that has been through multiple spays may have some insight…

I was wondering about the same thing. Oscar’s neuter is coming up and I wasn’t sure how long to wait before I let him use the ramp leading up to his hutch. I was thinking of putting something like the top of a cardboard box under the ramp to elevate it a little bit and make it less steep. Would that be a possibility with your ramp, Roberta?

When Apollo got neutered, it was 4-5 days before I let him hop around being a crazy fool again! He used to have a ramp leading from his petstore cage to the floor. I did try to restrict jumping height then though!

The boys were no problem. The neuter just involved the minimum invasion. You would not know they had been done barring a spot the size of a match head on their testicles.. They ate straight out of surgery and were fine by the next day. Whilst Nermals wound is lovely and clean it is still several inches long and looking as though it is healing well. I know in humans after a hysterectomy that movement is limited for weeks. Lifting the ramp will only create a greater jump to access the ramp and then she flys about the levels like Evel Knievel. Starsky does the same in his multi level…
The main concern is even though the external wound is looking great is it OK for Noms to start exerting herself and how much longer should I wait ?

A couple of mini binkies have already been performed so I know Nommy is going to go “Hell for leather” once she gets her ramp back.

I pulled out the post op paperwork from when we had Inara spayed a little while ago. It looks like my vet recommended limiting activity for 7-10 days.

                        Glad she’s recovering so nicely.

                          Thanks MD,
My vet wasn’t there when I picked her up and the girls there (who I havn’t dealth with before) were obviously in “The boss is away and it’s Friday” Mode Wasn’t happy at all as I wanted some follow up info but I was basically ignored.. I will be letting my vet know about the experience when I see her next.

Nermal is back in her cage tonight… She was a bit hesitant when I put the ramp up after I finished cleaning it and refreshing her bedding but once she took the first leap she was such a happy bun… Checking everything over and giving each and every part a good chinning..
Frank the Wunder Plushie and Road Kill Skunk are back up there and she has tucked them both in for the night…
