So I got my bun 2 weeks ago, and after a couple days I started giving him Oxbow alfalfa pellets(his 3-4 months) and he got a little sick from them,( I think I went to fast into it) so after a couple of days he stopped eatting hay and wasn’t drinking very much, so I toke all the pellets away

so now it has been a week and I want to get him back on them (his a young growing rabbit) so my question is: how should I start feeding them to him. should I start with just a couple pieces or what?

        Please help

How old is he? If he’s fully grown, you can keep up the hay for at least one week more before you start him back on the pellets, then only give a few each time. Two weeks or more of hay only strenghtens a bunny’s stomach bacterial-flora-wise. An adult bunny won’t starve on hay only.

If he’s very young he may need his pellets. Anyway you’ll need to start with a few pellets and increase the amount over time.

Was he eating a different pellet before? Were you trying to switch and you just did it too fast? Maybe you could get some of the old pellets?

As LBJ10 said, if it’s possible to get hold of the old pellets that might work.
I’m sorry, I don’t know this brand of pellets but mine are on Excel junior/dwarf, if you are able to get hold of something that’s specifically made for the age or size of your bun that might work better.

Start slowly with the pellets and then increase the amount. Is he eating hay ok now? If you are worried about the nutrition he’s getting have a hunt for some varied hay – mine are on Excel herbage which is a mix of Timothy hay with dandelion and marigold. That way you know he will get extra vitamins.

He’s 3 months old and when I got him he had never had any pellets before
When he got “sick” he stopped eating his hay and wouldn.’t even eat treats

What happened when he got sick? Did he stop eating, or have diarrhea, or what? This still isn’t clear. Did you take him to the vet when he got sick? Did the vet do a fecal exam?

Yes, now I’m confused too. If he stopped eating hay, it just sounds like he was filling up on pellets.

                        He’s COMPLETLY fine now.
I guess my question should be: How should I introduce pellets to a 4 month year old rabbit, who has NEVER had pellets before

Well, if he’s eating a lot of hay now, then I would introduce them starting with a smaller amount first. Then work your way up. Hay is important and if he’s not used to eating pellets, then he could feel full after eating them and he might not want to eat as much hay. He is only 4 months old though, so he should have pellets in his diet. He should still be growing and they would provide the nutrition he needs.
