Ever since I heard about the bunny condos you can make out of those wire shelving cubes, I’ve been dying to make one for Nyx. We’re cramped for space in my room ever since I moved home, and I mean CRAMPED. I have stacks of books sitting on my floor in towers, half my wardrobe has to be stacked on the floor in baskets, I have plastic storage bins and crates tucked up in corners with a whole bunch of random stuff sitting on top of them. This is with the majority of my books and other moving boxes set in the storage room.

The only room in the house Nyx has access to is mine (we have an elderly but un-fixed small dog who has gotten super territorial with her in the house, he’s marking everything, and he never did it before she came around and we can’t seem to break him out of it), but when I let her out, I do have to watch her like a hawk to make sure nothing falls on her and that she isn’t getting into anything she shouldn’t. Which isn’t hard because my room is so tiny that she’s barely ever out of my eyesight even if I’m doing something else.

Right now, her pen is taking up a whole corner of my room. Which is kind of a lot. I don’t mind, really, because I know she needs a pretty good amount of space and she likes it so much better than the cage I used to have her in. Still, it’s a lot of room…and I’ve been thinking that if I could build her one of those cube towers that it would cut down on the cramped-ness we’ve got going on, and maybe also relegate her potty to a much smaller area, because right now I think she recognizes her whole pen as her litter box. She won’t pee or poop outside it, but they’re all over inside of it…which is an unrelated frustration.

I’ve looked for these stupid cube shelves at Wal-Mart and Lowes and K-Mart and I CAN’T FIND THEM ANYWHERE.  It’s stressing me out. I don’t want to order them online because I know the shipping will be outrageous, and I’ll need a lot of cubes to build the pen I want. I’m going to look at Target next, but I think my sister found some there once but didn’t buy them because they were incredibly expensive. I haven’t seen any on Craigslist in my area either, and when I asked about them on FB no one knew what I was talking about/didn’t have any.

I bought mine at Target – but the grids in the box came in 2 different sizes…where some grids were large enough that the buns can get their entire head through the holes…which is not ideal.

I’ve read on here, that some found NIC cubes at KMart – where the grids were all the smaller size grids – that are better for buns. Good luck!

I bought mine from Bed, Bath and Beyond and if you use their 20% you can save $2. The site can also help you find which stores has it in stock. Zip ties can be found at any hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc).
