I don’t know if anyone has a similar issue. I haven’t had this issue with any of my buns in the past, but it may be because he is a Flemish Giant. My bun has really dirty back feet. Only his back feet, they mat up too like he can’t reach them to groom them properly. I clean out his litter box once-twice a day (as much as it gets dirty and needs to be done really) he has two boxes and one that is huge.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep them clean? Is it common for larger breeds to have an area they have trouble cleaning?

Mine had really dirty back feet too since I got him from a pet store. They were yellow from sitting in his urine. I have a very absorbent litter now which really helps. Mine also gets matted which he has yet to let me get to them. He grooms them just fine though and they have since become less yellow over time as his feet shed out. It did take about a month though. What litter are you using? I am not sure about giant breeds having a hard time grooming their feet so I can’t answer to that…
If you think your litter is effective, perhaps it is more of a personality trait that he isn’t super diligent about his back feet? Or I wonder if flemies are less flexible? Probably wouldn’t hurt to ask your vet but perhaps others know more about flemies that may help you. I can only tell you that mine does groom his feet but it took him about a month to clean them.
