I just brought my bunny home today and found out while i was there that he is only three weeks old.the man said he was eating food and he would be fine but now i am not so sure. Is hay and pellets enough for him right now or does he need anything else?? I would have left him there a little longer but he was not living in great conditions (outdoors in a dirty wire cage ) . Plus the man reassured me he was fine. What do you guys think??

I have no experience with baby rabbits but did find these articles that might help…

Three weeks?! Oh my gosh, that is so young! Are you sure he is that young? Could this person be mistaken? Sounds like a very shady person. No reputable breeder would do something like that.

Egads, I got Pepper and Piglet about that age but it was an emergency rescue situation… They really still need Mums milk to build good gut function at that age.
Have you got a photo… It might be easier to tell.

This is Pepper (Black) and Piglet on their rescue day. That’s a cat bed stuffed inside a medium carrier they are in.

Yes, a picture would definitely help.

Oh he breeds them to eat. I wanted to save this baby. His pic is my profile and was taken a week ago( so he would have been two weeks old) i am trying to upload a pic from today but i think its too large it won’t work. The guy didn’t sound too sure about how old the bunny was. He thought about it a minute and was like yea he is three weeks old today. But he is nibbling on his hay and food . So that is a good sign i guess.

He looks maybe a bit bigger than pepper and piglet tho. Just slightly.

Bubs will usually start to eat hay and pellets at 3-4 weeks with a daily top up from Mum…
So glad you saved the little one…. Is it possible to get a baseline vet check, the vet will be able to advise if a supplement is necessary and what is the best one.

I could do that. What did u do feed your babies?? Just hay and pellets?

I started them on hay and pellets, also some greens… However Pepper and Piglet were yoinked by rescuers from an open back yard where the rabbits were left to free range until killed for meat. The situation was discovered when neighbours raised the alarm that their cats were bringing home baby and young rabbits for breakfast. Pepz and Piggers were found huddled in spots in the garden, no nest no parents they could be matched to.. For food they had dry grass and old turnips, no water… I was completely inexperienced and hit the internet running to find out what was needed. It was a very steep learning curve..
Both did fine on the diet they were given and did not need supplements, I don’t know if it was pure luck or the fact that they had been left to live like wild rabbits that they could manage from such an early age.

Gosh that is aweful !! I am also not very experienced (obviouly i didn’t even know he was too young!) but he seems to be doing good he has been chowing down on his food for a while now and sipping water from a cup. Knowing your rabbits turned out okay makes me feel better. I will keep a close eye on the situation tho. Thank u
