Hi I was wanting to make toys for my rabbit and was wondering if anyone knew where I can buy untreated sisal rope? I was at Lowes and they had some but you could tell it was treated because it smelled even threw the packaging. The package stated it was natural but did not mention it being treated or untreated so I didn’t buy it.. I also noticed Hobby Lobby sells some, does anyone know if it is untreated? Any info would be appreciated.

You can get sisal rope at Michaels, etc.
Even if it says untreated, I might email the company to see if any pesticides were used in the growing process, as well as treating after picking.

T.W. Evans Cordage has said their sisal is pet safe: http://www.twevans.com/

I bought like 50′ a while ago and it’s been fine. (but always check!)

I used to love Hobby Lobby but I was searching for something rabbit related on their online store and came across the bunny pelts they sell and haven’t been able to shop there since.

Thanks for the info. I will try that site you mentioned. Being you bought some from that site and its fine I would feel comfortable buying it. I didn’t even realize Hobby Lobby sold bunny pelts. I rarely shop there but I was on their online site and they had some sisal rope on there with a 40% off an item and had seriously considered buying some. Thanks again!

they answered, said it was all natural, however it’s not tested on animals so of course you can never be sure, kind of the answer I was expecting

and yes they do sell REAL rabbit fur in their leatherworking stuff
