I understand that rabbits are suppose to have unlimited hay for their digestive system, but would it make them gain weight from how much they eat hay?

it’s quite a newbie question, but I am just curious :0

Nope. Regular hay (not alfalfa) has next to no nutritional value. It would be like a human eating plain popcorn all day long. It makes you feel full but doesn’t actually do anything for you.
Rabbits are designed to live on a low-nutrition diet and they need hay to wear down their teeth and keep their digestive track constantly moving. They definitely won’t get fat from it though.

Bpash is correct. Hay will not make them fat and the more they eat – the happier you should be!

Alfalfa should definitely be avoided after 7 months old unless given as a treat.
