Azura decided not to eat her dinner (or even get up when HJ fed the girls). She further rejected her very favorite treats.

So, she’s probably in stasis. Our rabbit vet opens at 7 AM (it’s 11 PM here) and we will be there as soon as they open. We’ve called and left a message to say why. If I feel the need to, we have an emergency vet right around the corner, but I don’t think we need that quite yet.

She’s being fairly active (digging in my blanket, hopping about), so I’m encouraging that. I’ve given her a dose of metacam in case she’s hurting, and simethicone as well to eliminate any gas..

Is there anything else I can do for her until we get her to the vet when they open?

And… the brat just grabbed the banana I had out just in case she decided she wanted to eat and devoured a huge chunk. Then she ate the pellets I offered. Little brat. I’m still watching her until she poos because it was extremely unusual behavior, but it might just have been her messing with us.

Perhaps it was gas and the simethicone made her feel well enough to eat

I agree – you may have nipped the problem right in the bud by giving her the simethicone. Just keep an eye on her and her eating habits and poos. I have had stasis sneak up on me just when I think there’s not a problem anymore.

I’m glad she is feeling better. I’ve had similar situations. I agree with Tanlover, keep a close eye on her. And of course, recurring gas/ unwillingness to eat should be investigated by a vet to see what the underlying cause is.

All is good today – she’s been eating normally. Saw her eating hay, she ate some carrot greens, and she did her normal “chase Navi around until Daddy puts the pellets in the cage then sprint for them” routine that was missing last night to cause the panic. We’re keeping a close eye just in case, but as of right now, we seem to be in the clear.

As of right now, we’re forgoing the vet visit, but we did call them to let them know. If it happens again, I’ll definitely take her in to get everything checked.

Yeah, there’s no reason to take her in if she’s okay now unless it pops up again. Then I would definitely take her in.

                    Happy she’s doing okay!
