I’m so worried, my sister and I “co- own” our rabbit buttons. We share a bedroom and his room is our room. While away this past week my sister has been taking care of him. He gets salads every day however when looking at his salad dish i noticed the rubber bottom of the pet bowl (to keep the bowl from moving around to much) was chewed out. About a quarter or dime sized piece is completely missing and i have no idea how long its been missing. I’m very concerned about his health and him getting a blockage but my sister wants to wait on calling the vets to avoid an expensive trip we don’t quite have the money for. Do you think it should pass? Can we help him in any way by feeding him something to move it along? or should we just bite the bullet and call the vet? I’m so worried about him and i don’t know what to do. If any one has had a similar experience some advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sometimes bunnies eat things they shouldn’t. Powder once munched off all the rubber buttons on my remote control. Lots of hay and water and keeping an eye on his pooping is all you need for now. If he shows any symptoms of a blockage, not eating, lethargy or not pooping much then call the vet.

I agree with Stickerbunny, Monitor pooping etc and make sure Buttons gets lots of hay, water and veg to keep things moving.
Bunnies really are like goats, they will eat anything given half the chance, you would not believe what mine have consumed (the most recent being the bunny room window flyscreens) Change his litter tray frequently so you can tell if there is any reduction in the quantity or size of his poop and watch to see if he has any bloating or discomfort… It’s entirely possible most of it has already passed out of his system if he ate the rubber a few days ago.

Yesterday I posted a pic of Yohio in another thread, but Ill post it again so you can see the small yellow rubber-ball in the pic. After the pic was taken, Yohio ate most of that ball. He didn’t get ill. I gave him lots of hay.

They do like to scare their humans.

Yep, just echoing what the others said. While it is always cause for some concern when they eat non-food items, rabbits will eat anything they can get their little teeth on. You’ll get used to it. They are heartier than they look sometimes.
Give him lots of hay and be on the lookout for any behavior that is out of the ordinary (but really, don’t we all do that everyday anyway?)
I’m sure he’ll be just fine.

A super late reply but this post is so reassuring. My bun chewed on a yoga mat and I’ve been sick worried. Keeping a close eye but so helpful to know I’m not alone in having a bunny who eats what he should not!

Hi, Ziggy. Bunnies can certainly keep us on our toes with naughty things they eat!!!! We ask that members please not reply to old threads since it can cause confusion and many of these members may no longer be active. Since this thread is from 2013, I’m going to lock it soon. Will leave it open for now, in case you need more help but feel free to start your own thread about your bunny. Thanks!
