I really hope I’m just being paranoid again, but I was checking on Nyx before I went to get in the shower, and I noticed that there are a couple of spots of weird, mucus-like…stuff…in her pen. The first one I noticed was just the mucus-y stuff itself. It’s thick and kind of translucent, a spot not much bigger than a dime maybe, and slightly yellowish. I thought maybe it was just new pee that hadn’t soaked into the material yet, but it’s been about fifteen minutes and it’s still just sitting there, all yucky and disconcerting. I saw another spot a few minutes ago, and there was a poo in it, but I don’t know if the mucus and the poo came together or if the mucus just landed on an existing bit of poo.

I don’t see any other spots, and she’s not really behaving much differently than she has been all day. She’s been nomming on hay every now and again, I saw her drinking water several times, she had some dandelion and mint leaf salad several hours ago. Since she just got fixed on Wednesday, I gave her a 0.3mL dose of children’s ibuprofen about six hours ago, but I’ve done that twice before now and didn’t see any mucus-y stuff afterward.

I’ve been sitting her watching her as I type this, for about five minutes now, and she’s just grooming herself. She doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable or anything.

I don’t know what’s wrong or what to do! I’m including a picture of the spot as an attachment, as yuck as it is, just in case I’m not describing it well. It’s pretty yuck. I’m sorry!

        //Edit

        Another spot. Mehhhhh!

I’m still freaking out a little. I think it might just be pee, and it has something to do with the new material on the floor of her pen as to why it’s not soaking in, but now she hasn’t been pooping much since about eight last night. She’s totally ignoring her hay and the only thing she’ll eat are greens. I haven’t seen her drink again. I’ve seen two cecotrophes, and I NEVER see her cecotrophs, so I guess she’s ignoring those too?

She did eat less than half of a boiled peanut earlier, right before I noticed the weird might-be-pee and lack of poo, but I got it away from her almost as soon as she had it. Could the saltiness have made her tummy feel weird?

I don’t want to handle her any more than I have to right now, because her 7pm and 7am meds were a disaster. I couldn’t get her to hold still for the syringe to save my life, and I can’t hold her like I usually do to give her syringe stuff because she has a giant painful incision that’s making things difficult.

I know I’m probably being a paranoid mama, but I’ve got to work ALL DAY today, and I won’t be able to watch her like a hawk like I have been all night…

She may be pooping out the mucus, but I wouldn’t know why…
Is it possible the mucus is coming from the insicion?
What type of fabric are you using in the cage?

I would visit the vet, and bring along the mucus. It’s definitely not normal and can be a sign of something more serious.

            How old is she?

She’s about two and a half years old. Definitely a little late getting her spayed, but this is the first time my financial situation has allowed it.

I truly think the mucus turned out to be me overreacting to pee-puddles…I wiped up one of the spots and it was definitely liquid, not sticky or mucus-y at all. Another spot that I was leaving there in case I had to take it with me to the vet did eventually soak in and looked like a regular pee-spot. She hasn’t been drinking as much as usual (she was spayed Wednesday so her eating/drinking habits have been off)…could dehydration cause super-concentrated bunny pee? o_0 Usually I don’t see her pee-puddles, but then again I’m usually not watching her this closely either.

I checked her incision when I gave her meds at seven this morning (ugh) and the mucus/pee/mysterious liquid wasn’t coming from there. It was dry and clean, less red than it was even the night before. Her butt wasn’t wet or sticky, either, and I usually notice that quickly because of all the fluff down there.

The material on the floor of her pen is just some random polyester-cotton blend, and I did notice that when her sipper bottle dripped a little the water stayed beaded up for a fairly long time. She’s always been very good about not chewing on cloth when it’s what’s keeping her from skidding around on linoleum, though, so I don’t think she’s ingested any of it. I put it down last night and she was supremely uninterested in it…it hasn’t even moved.

She did go several, several hours without pooping, though, and that’s another part of what had me so concerned last night and this morning. She just got fixed on Wednesday, and since then her eating habits have been iffy. She eats her hay, but not nearly as enthusiastically as she eats her greens. She hasn’t been too interested in water unless I put the greens in it first. I saw two of her cecotrophs (but no hard poos) and I rarely see those, even when cleaning her pen. I also noticed that she was grooming herself like crazy, so I got a little worried about fur in her tummy maybe blocking things up and gave her a little piece of pineapple this morning. She pretended not to be interested, but when I turned around she started eating it.

She started pooping again shortly afterward, and even licked at her sipper bottle for a little bit. I decided that it would be all right for me to go to work for a couple of hours, and when I walked out of my bedroom she was trying to binky. 😐

My mom is watching her for me until I can check on her during my lunch break. Last report was of more poos and no more mystery liquid spots. Munching hay. Still uninterested in pellets. Pineapple gone. Water level in the bowl/bottle hadn’t changed, though. :\

I think I’m a little bit of a crazy paranoid bunny mama, but I am starting to get worried about her not actively drinking. Giving her water through a syringe would be a fiasco for both of us :[
