I am so careful about bunny proofing everything in my house: the wires all have plastic covers on them and dangerous places are blocked off. A couple weeks ago I misplaces a pair of earbuds. I put them on top of Nellie’s cage (a place where she can’t get) and somehow they fell between her cage and the wall, and she pulled them into her cage. I don’t know how long she has had them, but I just now found them in her bed part of her cage, and I’m freaking out! Besides the headphones being chewed to pieces, there was a good bit of wire missing as well, and I’m sure she must have eaten it. The pieces of wire were arranged in a way, mixed with pieces of fur she had shed, that it looks like they had been sitting there chewed up for a while. I’m so scared that this will harm her, though! She is eating/peeing/pooping normally. I don’t know what to do, and I don’t want her to die!

I’m sure she is fine. My bunny is obsessed with eating cords and has killed many in the few months I’ve had her. She actually has eaten through the cord covers TWICE now in order to eat the cord inside. Do you know how infuriating it is to wake up to an 80 dollar computer charger that is snapped in half when it was in a “bunny proof” cord cover? But I digress… if it’s been in her cage for awhile then it’s probably only a small, small amount she’s actually eaten at a time. I really wouldn’t worry about it too much. Just make sure she’s eating lots of hay so whatever she has ingested recently with pass on through.

I think Nellie will be just fine..Pascal recently ate my Stereo cables and the fairy light cord going out to the patio. The wildebeest ate the cord to my favourite lamp and the cord to the bug zapper. They all survived..

It is irritating that buns love wires so much. I have spent so much money on chew toys and things to keep her entertained but the only thing she wants is my wires! Thanks for the responses guys. I’ll keep a watch on her for a while to make sure she’s fine.

I echo the others. Keep a very close eye on her. If she stops eating or pooping, call the vet.

It is frustrating how they like to eat stuff like that. That’s life with a bunny.

Nyx somehow managed to get at my ethernet cable…I’m very careful about blocking off her access to such things, but SOMEHOW she managed to drag a good portion of it into her pen. I didn’t discover it until the actual internet started acting iffy, but it was pretty chewed up. That’s been about a month ago now that I noticed it, and she’s been fine. As long as your bun is still nomming and pottying she should be all right! :]
