Hello all!  Long time, no post.  Things have been kind of busy (defended my thesis, moved 3,000 miles across the country, got engaged, etc…all with the floppy one in tow!).

I was wondering if there are any Richmond, Virginia house rabbit people.  There does not seem to be ANY local resources and we would love to support them if they were available! Also, we will need someone to watch the diva occasionally and would love to have some idea of who to contact… the only alternative we have come up with is driving her to my parents (5+ hours away) for them to watch her – and if you think 5+ hours of driving is bad for us, you should see the hissy fit Lola throws when she has to go for a car ride. She HATES it.  I guess that’s what happens when you are stuck in the car across country for 6 days…you think she would have grown used to it by now.

If anyone has any idea – please give me a shout out!

And here is a gratuitous Lola picture in her Halloween costume being ever-so-thrilled!

I’m on an IPad and the link doesn’t want to work, sorry.

I’m in Delaware and there is a house rabbit rescue at the very tip of Delaware where it meets PA. It’s in Newark…

I have to say – since logging back in I’ve spent way too much time looking at all the cute, fluffy faces on here.  It’s cured my furlough woes a little.

Rufus – thanks! wish we would have taken video of her running around the room with it on…she would have been a YouTube sensation.

LPT – I have looked into those and they are all in Northern VA except Virginia Rabbit, Inc. who my fiance has been in contact with to try to see if they know of anyone in the central Virginia area.

NewBunnyOwner – that would still be a trek…but thanks for the advice! it’s something to look into.

We are just trying to find someone in like a 30-60 minute radius of Richmond to reduce Lola’s car ride trauma if she needs to go somewhere and have a “just in case” resource for boarding. We don’t travel a lot but trying to explain to someone how to take care of a house rabbit seems to be a lot more difficult than a cat or dog.  People just don’t take you too seriously which is lame…and they tend to look at you like you are crazy when you try to explain you have a rabbit that has long fur that she is constantly grooming and has had two bouts of GI issues so you have to monitor her poops.

I’m not far from Richmond, it’s my old stomping grounds, however I’ve only recently become a house bunny owner… so my info is really limited.

The vet I currently use is:
                  Wellesley Animal Hospital‎
                  3430 Lauderdale Drive
                  Richmond, VA 23233
                  (804) 364-7030

The work with a lot of exotics, so may have sitter info, possibly even one of their technicians sit, or possible even be an emergency boarding situation for you.

http://www.friendsofrabbits.org/ – Helps those in our area with other stuff, such as financial assistance for speuters… they seem primarily based in DC/Baltimore.. but Richmond is a part of their “area”. I’m hoping to be able to do some sort of volunteer work for them in the future.

I live in Ashland…there are actually several rabbit rescues in our state. Rabbit.org is the best place to look. However, it would be nice to get together with other local bunny slaves (lol) once in a while.
                    Cute photo by the way!
