My rabbit is almost one year old and has never had his nails clipped formally. I’ve clipped one here and there when I could, such as when he puts his paws up on his cage wire to stand up on his hind legs. His nails are really long, and he had an accident a couple days ago when he snapped one and bled a lot. He is a nervous, jumpy rabbit (as my vet likes to call it). I’ve tried putting him on his back, wrapping him in a towel, and approaching him gently when he’s relaxing. I feel so helpless that I’ve even thought about giving him some drowsy medicine to clip his nails while he’s asleep. Have any of you tried doing this? Honestly, it seems like the only option I have left. Maybe some Nyquil or Benadryl will do the trick? Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you

If you can’t do it yourself I would have the vet do it. My vet charges $8 to trim bunny nails.

DO NOT give your rabbit any medication to try to make him sleep. Rabbits metabolize things differently and anything strong enough to put him to sleep would likely kill him.
