So, as some of you may know I have tried slideshows and talking to my parents about letting my bunny live indoors. My last try was a brilliant slideshow with housing options for indoors, they acted as they were gonna give us a trial run…my parents ended up backing out of it. I need new ideas to propose the idea for letting my bunny live indoors. My bunny is a very clean bunny and has very few accidents in his outdoor cage and is a total sweetheart, and my dad has a soft spot for him now..haha I knew it would happen So, I need ideas quickly before it starts getting cold outside.

The important thing is to find out and understand their specific concerns, then address those concerns.

There are many legitimate concerns of having a bunny in the house. I’ll give you an example concern and a possible resolution to it: Chewing through wires is one. y bunny, Porky, has caused a lot of damage to wires in our house that we didn’t think he could get at but did. Since I’m the adult responsible for buying new wires it’s OK for me to just decide it’s a cost I’m willing to take on. If your parents aren’t willing to risk the cost of bunny destruction, maybe you need to agree to pay a pet deposit to cover such costs. Many landlords require pet deposits from tenants to cover possible costs of damage caused by pets. If your rabbit doesn’t cause any damage, you will get your deposit back when you are old enough to move out.

Solutions need to be tailored to your parents exact concerns, just showing them how nice it can be to have a bunny inside doesn’t do anything to solve their concerns.

Don’t worry too much about it getting cold.  Bunnies don’t mind that nearly as much as they mind really hot weather.

I thought your parents were allowing your bunny in the house?

They were going to allow him to come indoors after our vacation. When we got back they had changed their minds, and they wouldn’t even tell me why. ;(

I agree with Eepster. Find out the specific concerns they have. You can also keep the rabbit in an enclosure in your room when you’re not home. That way he won’t be out unless supervised. As for destruction, you could agree to invest in wire protectors if that’s a concern. Also remind them it doesn’t have to be permanent. If they feel it isn’t working you can always go back to your current arrangment.
                Best of luck!!

when I first told my parents that rabbits should be housed indoors my dad said “we are not having a rabbit in the house”
So then I went in my room and spent time planing things out, and then I rearanged my room so that I had a big enough area(the space is around 5’X4′)
Then I showed My parents My room, they kindof like “alright, but if this room get any bit smelly or our bunny recks the trim, then he’s out of here.

so now I have my bun and was litter trained in 1-2 days!! I change the litterbox every other day and my room smells fine

I hope you get to take him inside!

Thanks for the advice. My bunny has developed an infection in his eye..we are taking him to the vet this weekend. I’m gonna bring him indoors this weekend and following week (with parents permission) just to watch over him carefully. So..maybe once my parents see that he’s a good indoor pet they’ll consider keeping him indoors.

The infection may be a blessing in disguise, as they might see that he is happier and healthier indoors and also makes a lovely clean indoor bunny!!
Let us know how it goes, fingers crossed for you! x
