My rabbit just broke his nail. He was scratching the door and making a fuss so I grabbed him to relocate him. He freaked out and jumped to the ground, breaking his nail during the land. He’s licking his paw and tending to it. It doesn’t look like it’s bleeding too much, but the nail is still attached. He never lets me touch his paws, which is how his nails became so long in the first place, causing the quick to snap so deep. (I feel horrible btw) Do I need to cut off the part of the nail that’s just sort of hanging to the side? Or will my rabbit know what to do with his own body? Should I visit the vet and have her clip his broken nail? I’m too scared of doing anything to him right now, since I’m not a professional. Also, is there anything I should do to help his recovery and prevent infections?

Bumping this so someone can answer you. I think it accidently got overlooked. How is he doing now, since it’s been a couple days?

He’s doing well actually. When I woke up, his loose nail was gone so I’m assuming that he pulled it out?

It sorted itself out. Glad it’s better!
