I own a lionhead rabbit and what I would like to ask of you guys is what kind of litter you use for your lionhead. I would like a litter that I could scoop some of her poop out of, but I don’t want it to stick to her butt fur which I have a problem with if I use the smaller paper litter. Any suggestions? Or recommendations?

I have used both Oxbow eco straw and yesterday’s news. I like both. I think yesterday’s news is easier to use than eco straw as eco straw gets quite heavy when it absorbs urine. However, it is SUPER absorbent. I have a lionhead lop mix and neither of those stick to his bum. Scooping poops has been a challenge for me though. I have just resorted to taking a paper towel and scooping out poops with my hand that way. I have a litter scoop but doesn’t work as well as I’d hoped. Don’t think that would matter regardless of which litter I gravitated toward.

Thank you Kbana! I have used yesterday’s news before and i like it I was just seeing if their was anything easier. Guess ill just have to do what you do with the paper towel lol. I’ve never used the oxbow before but all the pet stores in my area don’t have much rabbit stuff so I would probably have to try getting that from online. It may just be easier for me to stick with yesterday’s news though. Again thanks for your suggestions!

The shelter where I got my rabbit suggested wood pellet fuel that you can get from home depot (or someplace similar) in really big bags. You just have to make sure it’s an untreated version, but it ends up being cheaper than litter, and works just as good. The specific brand they sold me was Pennington Seed oak hardwood. They use it with all of their rabbits.

Thank you JoyCounts! I will also have to try that.

I use the CareFresh (which is not optimal for Lionhead hair – I have two Lionheads myself) but I always just sprinkle a bit of hay over top of the litter and it doesn’t stick to them at all anymore.
