Hi everyone. I have a question about changing my rabbits day to day schedule. I recently graduated with my masters and am looking for full time employment. I have a prospective job interview lined up and am worried about a 9-5 job. For as long as Cinnabun and I have been together (about 2 yrs now) I’ve been around for almost the whole day, with maybe an hour or two an exception. I’m really worried about leaving her alone for 8 hours by herself. I don’t want her to be depressed or lonely or scared. Or hate me. That’s my biggest fear. Right now I don’t have the money for a second rabbit. She does have an entire bedroom to herself with lots of toys and food, so space and feed arent’ an issue. But I’m worried that she’ll grow resentful of being on her own. Suggestions?

She might have adjustment issues at first but I think she’ll be OK. I work 9-5, but am really gone from 8-6, with the commute, and Dobby is fine. I just try to make sure he has time to run around while I’m getting ready in the morning and at night. Really, even when I am home on the weekends and the odd day off he sleeps pretty much the entire afternoon.

I don’t know what your feeding schedule is like, but before you do get the job, you might want to begin the transition to a feeding schedule that will work when you work. 🙂 And maybe a couple of new toys for the first few days you’re at work.

          Good luck at the interview!

Just make sure to spend some quality time with her when you are home. I’m sure she will be fine. Might take her a bit to get used to the new routine. If she’s anything like my two, she will spend a large part of that time sleeping anyhow.

Best of luck with the interview!

I also do the 9 to 5 and my bunny handles it fine. To be honest, any time I’m home all day (random holiday or a Saturday or something) she generally ignores me all day long, napping in her little box until around the time I would be getting home on a normal work day anyway. Try and give her a little attention before you leave and once you get home and I’m sure once she settles into the routine she will be just fine.

my schedule changes every day. sometimes i start work before 5 am and get home early afternoon, other times i don’t start till early afternoon and don’t get home till almost midnight. i also do the occasional 9-5. I am still able to let my guy out for playtime during his active times and make sure to give him some love (and treats!) when i get home. it’s not ideal but he does well and has lots of toys in his cage to occupy his time when i’m not home. good luck!

She’ll be fine! Mine are alone for 9 hours a day and don’t even notice I’m gone. If I am home during the day, they are sleeping anyway. They’re great pets for working people because their sleep schedules coincide with a normal 9-5 work schedule.
