Hi! My name is Katie and I found Al in a pet store after my hamster died. I was heartbroken and went in to do dome research on a future pet with a longer life span. I had zero intention of getting a rabbit since I had heard how high maintenance they are, but I saw Al in all his crazy-haired glory staring back at me and it was love at first sight! The first thing out of my mouth was “He looks like Albert Einstein” and it just stuck! The pet store told me he was a girl so he was nick named Allie for a while until his first vet visit. Now I call him Al or Albie (or bubba but I have now idea why I do that LOL! It just started coming out of my mouth the minute the vet told me he was a boy!) I have had him for a little over a month now and I can’t believe I’ve never had rabbits before. Yes, he is super high maintenance, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am a rabbit lover for life!

I am a 4th grade teacher in the suburban IL area. I have been teaching for 10 years and I love children, but animals are my passion. (along with clothes and shoes LOL) Al spends time with me in my classroom and at home. I know this is a very controversial topic but I work very closely with my rabbit savvy vet (found on HRS website) to ensure he gets the best out of both environments. He loves the children (they have very limited interaction and do NOT handle him, but they do take responsibility for cleaning and feeding) and hopping around the classroom at the end of the day/night for a few hours. He is very curious and very social. He also loves being at home with me on weekends as well as weeks when he can’t be in the classroom if the schedule/temps don’t suit his needs. This will probably be the only year he is in my classroom with me since I have a student teacher and I am able to give him the attention he needs during the day while she is attending more to the students.  He has done extremely well adapting to both environments as well as the car ride. (I keep his carrier in his ex-pen as a hidey house so he doesn’t just associate it with the car. ) Here are two pics of his set ups. The smaller set up is for class since he gets free roam of the room after school (yes, we sweep up and bunny proof before letting him out) and the larger one is for home.  I wish he could have free roam at home but we have a dog that needs to stay separated from him so AL gets a 30 sq foot ex-pen instead that he has 24r access to. In short, he was way more than I bargained for but I wouldn’t trade him for anything.  I am so thankful for this site and people like you who help me provide the best care possible.

Hi from another Katie and rabbit lover for life.

I somehow missed in other posts that he was named after Albert Einstein. Love the choice!

Also love the Bun-Do and muttonchops. He’s just…
                Eeeeee! = Much Cuteness^2
Pls excuse my LAME humour. :p

I think a couple other members bring their rabbits to the classroom also. Some rabbits do great in the environment. I like that yours has the covered cage part to go if he needs some “quiet time”.

Thanks LPT and Jerseygirl! His “look” just cracks me up!
Jerseygirl, I am so glad to hear other members have success with having their buns in the classroom. We really enjoy having him with us.  I was fearful that we wouldn’t be able to meet all his needs here after I found out more about bunny care, but so far so good! I absolutely adore my vet!
