My rabbit’s name is Poppy. She is a silver marten and I think she is around 8 months old, I’ve had her around 2 months. She is a rescue rabbit that my boyfriend and I found hopping around outside my apartment while I was moving. I brought her home with me, planning on sending her to a shelter, but by the time I found one that could take her I couldn’t let her go. The House Rabbit Society in my area helped me get set up, and she has been with me ever since!

She is spayed. She is EXTREMELY outgoing (she hopped right up to us out of the blue the day we found her, we were quiet surprised by the little black rabbit at our feet). She is full of energy, but very sweet when she calms down enough to let you pet her. She doesn’t climb into my lap to to be pet yet, but I’m hoping to train her to do so (I’m working on clicker training).

I’m a brand new rabbit owner, and would love any advice I can get! I never really chose to have a rabbit companion, she chose me. I get the feeling she is going to continue to be the boss for the rest of our relationship…

I had been a dog person all my life, but unable to get one do to my living situation. I had done some research about getting a rabbit before Poppy found me, but I had worried they wouldn’t have much personality (obviously VERY WRONG, Poppy taught me that early on). Again, any advice for a new rabbit owner would be great!

Thanks for taking the time to read!

She is a beautiful rabbit. By what you say about her she sounds like a great first rabbit for you. Glad you two found each other!

She’s lovely! And it’s so lucky that she hopped up to you, rather than someone who would have ignored her or left her in a shelter.

I’ve been a dog person all my life too and only decided on rabbits for the same reason. They’re more demanding (surprisingly) in some ways but also have many similarities to dogs. It sounds like you’re a convert like me already!
