        Hello,

We will be adopting a holland lop in a few weeks. I have narrowed it down to these two cages-

We plan on the cage being open most of the time and will have a nice Ex-pen around it so the bunny can exercise. I would  prefer the smaller one, since it will be mainly for litter, food. Since bunny is a baby (10 weeks old) she may not be litter trained yet and might initially stay a little longer time during the day in the cage. But as soon as I am confident that she has the litter thing basically down, we plan on keeping cage door open with Ex-pen all day.

either would be paired with this Ex-pen and will be placed on a same surface ( an smooth tight weave outdoor carpet)

Just want to make sure smaller is OK or if I should go for larger.

        Thanks!

Oh, and we will have a small ramp made so bunny can exit! See easier links below:

            Welcome!

You don’t really need the cage to add to the x-pen, especially since they are so overpriced and don’t provide much extra room anyway. All you need is a litter box to put in the pen. If you get a medium sized rectangle cat litter box it should be plenty big enough to put food and water bowls in if you’re worried about it making a mess on the floor. Having pellets and hay in the box will also greatly help with litter training as rabbits like to go while they eat.

Don’t forget to post pictures when you get her.

Agreed. The xpen alone (with litterbox and a small hidey hole) would be enough.

If you are outdoors you need to shelter the bun; so if you have a pet carrier you can put it inside the xpen (remove the door so he can go in freely). Some buns like the snugness and will take their nap inside during the day, and then roam around the pen when hungry/ at night.

If you are indoors, all you need is a small cardboard box with holes cut for the opening and a few air vents, place it in the xpen.

Word of caution: the bun can escape by jumping to the cardboard box/ carrier, then out over the pen, so whatever you put inside the pen make sure it is low enough
