Well, I’ve recently developed two red lumps on my stomach, one near my belly button, and the other just along the waist area where your trousers (or pants) would sit. They’re not scabby, just very angry, itchy red bites. I’m not sure if it’s linked, but I’ve also found 2-3 little tiny bumps on Apollo, one on the edge of his ear, and one-two at the base of his neck. When I’ve tried to look at them closely, Apollo got very grumpy and tried to run off, so I’m not sure if they’re sore for him, but I haven’t seen him scratching excessively. This has happened over…maybe the last week or two.

I should add though, that I had similar things on my arms, forearm and upper arm, that were itchy and red. This was maybe…3-4 weeks ago. But since it was testing week again at school, and I had loads of assignments, mum tied it down to stress related psoriasis. She suffers from that, so I can see where that idea came from.

Can anyone identify what’s going on, or what I can do to treat these bites? I’ve never been bitten before, no matter where we go (and we’ve been to Egypt and America and Cyprus and of course Australia)  it’s always everyone else who gets bitten, and I never have a mark. Not even the mozzies like me, during summer.   Of course this all happens while I’m getting sick aswell!

        Thanks everyone!

Whoops! I should add I treated Apollo with advantage for dogs…a couple of days ago?

Advantage will take care of fleas, but not mites. Just give it a chance to work on bun. Won’t, however, protect YOU, so keep an eye out. Also consider bed bugs and scabies? Spider bites? Just throwing suggestions out there…

I’ve been chomped too… I was thinking there could be a few bags of hay with mites in… They got me on the waist and arms too. I was going to let marita know this week.

Ah okay! I did think that actually, since I only got the bites the day AFTER I’d cleaned Apollo out. I noticed a sort of bald patch on the back of his neck earlier on today, and one of his ears seemed to be SERIOUSLY irritating him. He was reached up to pull it with his front paws every few steps at one point. Should I schedule a vet visit or something to sort them out Roberta?

I would schedule a vet visit. Better safe than sorry…

Some people are more immune to bites. Don’t know why, but on the rare occasion we’ve had fleas in the house, my husband gets all bitten up but I don’t… You’re lucky that you don’t usually have any issues!

It can’t hurt especially if there is fur loss… I have the revolution Puppy and Kitten… It does mites too and very effectively…

Okay, will do. Where did you get the revolution?

You can get it just about anywhere… I would not use a dog product on Apollo even if they say it’s safe… Too risky.
I got my latest batch of revolution from NSW through an Ebay store… You can get it at Pet Professionals for $40 for a 3 pack, Pet City, City Framers, Pet Paradise etc all stock it for a little bit more and all of the vets should also carry it (don’t let them talk you into anything else though) My vet, Anita of Edgewater Vet in Wanneroo (Wanneroo Rd just near Ocean Reef Road) has it as do Vetwest.

Okay, so I’ll get that sorted. How do I go about treating Apollo? Do I need to get rid of the hay? Or scrub everything out? Do I use up the hay, then treat him? What’s the routine for all this?
                          Thank you!

Okay! Well that happened fast! We’ve been to Vetwest, and he got checked all over for mites or fleas. Nothing obvious that would prove he had them, so she said he was fine. He got his nails clipped while he was there, also. Should I still take any precautions with the hay? x

I haven’t had any bites since I got the latest batch so it should be OK.. Unless you are still getting bitten then I would get a fresh bag..
