Hi, I need some advice again. I noticed today Buddy's got a bald patch on his neck. It definitely wasn't there yesterday. I had a good look and the skin is not broken or irritated and looks nice and pink, healthy. I did see him try and lick himself there yesterday but thought nothing of it as he has done it before. I took a photo, it's not the best but that's all he let me do. What do you think it is? He seems fine otherwise. He's on a diet of half a table spoon of pellets, a bit of greens and hay. He is still shedding. I will book a vet appointment tomorrow but would love some ideas. Thanks in advance.

          Has he been vaccinated recently?
The shots can sometimes cause a skin irritation.

Otherwise, I’d guess at him over grooming the spot or pulling the fur there.

I love the angle of that photo.

I agree with jerseygirl. The location and the fact that it wasn’t there yesterday make it seem like he’s pulled the fur himself.

Even with the spot he’s still gorgeous!

My rabbit gets these on her dewlap sometimes. I originally thought it might be wet dewlap as my bunnies drink from a bowl, but I’m not entirely sure. Hers usually gets irritated, I freak out and clean it and put some ointment on it and it goes away by itself.

Thanks for the replies and compliments
He hasn’t been vaccinated recently. It’s not wet either. If he is over grooming that spot or pulling his fur why would he do it and how do I make him stop? I’m taking him to the vet on Wednesday just to check his skin is alright, he won’t let me have a look now.

Could be stress, or pent up energy. Has anything stressful happened lately or does he seem to want more run time? Pulling fur or overgrooming are often anxiety related (doesn’t have to be though). Maybe the vet can give you a better idea.

No, nothing stressful happened and he is a free range bunny so he gets as much play time as he wants. We went to the vet and she said she wanted to make sure it’s not mites so she gave us Xeno 450 by Genitrix (2 tubes now and another two in a fortnight) and told us to come back in two weeks if nothing changes. She said that if he still keeps pulling his hair out after the treatment it may mean he’s bored or lonely. We had a date with a nice bunny lady planned for Bud next Saturday and now we can’t go in case he does have mites Has anyone here used Xeno before? Is it safe?
