I have a male netherland dwarf rabbit that is a little over a year old, and a male lionhead rabbit who is about 6 months old. They have always gone at it, but lately its been getting worse. They have been in the same cage since I got the lionhead and usually get along, snuggle and groom eachother, but a few times a day they go insane and will chase eachother. They spray and poop everywhere, but pee only in the litter box. My dwarf seems to have a tear in his testicles and I'm pretty positive its from the fighting. Would getting them neutered fix all of this?

Getting them neutered will definitely help. And definitely get them checked out after all this fighting, they can get some nasty injuries, like the tear near the testicles, that will need vet care.

I don’t know what to do because my father wont spend a dime on them, my mom doesn’t have the money and I just got back from a trip where I spent just about all of my graduation money. Everything was fine before I left

You need to separate them ASAP. They will need to be housed separately until they are neutered and you have re-bonded them. I really don't think you have any option but vet care for the injury. Rabbits are prone to abscesses and infection which can be dangerous.

Do you have the ability and space to house them separately?

For vet care, can you convince your father? Borrow from another relative or friend?

I put them in different cages. He seems ok and is not bleeding. Do you think I can wait until the day after tomorrow for the vet? Vet is closed now and I’m not sure if I can take him tomorrow.

I think its already been a few days. It must have happened while I was gone because its getting black. I just noticed it today.

TLB, I understand what you are up against… You need to get the little guy treatment as soon as you can… I hope that when you say “turning black” that the wound is not going necrotic…. Get to a vet as soon as physically possible. Try to build up an emergency fund for your buns or try something like Care Credit or similar, I wish we had that in Australia. Speak to your vet and see if they can arrange payments for emergencies…. The sooner you can get them neutered and antibiotics for the injury the better.

Just thinking if your Mum can help in other ways… I know she can’t assist financially but maybe she can help to sway your fathers attitude.. Just a thought and I am sure others will throw in ideas.. the intent is not to stress you but to think tank and find solutions. One idea might be useless till someone else tweeks it or another sound good till someone speaks the flaws…. So to every one following this… Start thinking and suggesting….

Maybe your local humane society has a discount neutering service. Many do! If yours does, one or both of your parents may be able to get him taken care of.

Vet opens Monday, so I’ll definitely bring him in then. He is still drinking and eating and is pretty active.
