Mako has been eating (albeit not as much as I would like) but since I switched her hay to something that agrees with my allergies, I haven't seen her eating as much hay. She's still pooping fine–is it possible she's eating her hay during the 8+ hours I'm gone every day? I know that she hardly ever eats her veggies when I'm home but I frequently come home to an empty plate, is it possible she's doing the same with her hay? I tried tapping her nose with it and she would bite it and then drop it.

edit: I decided to try the other type of hay I have as it's a bit fresher and higher quality and I'd say the verdict is out–she just doesn't like the cheaper hay. Since I have so much of it (40 lbs! yeesh, it was only $3 a bale though) I'm going to mix the two.

I was just going to say to mix the two that you had. How do you have her hay for her? Mine is in a manger and I can easily tell when he eats it because the manger is empty. ( I also put it in his litter boxes but it is really clear when he eats all his hay in his manger) So funny that your doesn’t like the cheap hay. Mine currently gets oxbow but someone bought a cheaper brand for me and my guy ate it up! ha! He still eats his oxbow but the cheaper stuff was a hit! LOL

It's in the litter boxes and also in a hay rack but she mostly ignores the hay in the rack. The stuff in the rack is timothy, the stuff I got at Rural King for $3 is "Mixed Grass" and the stuff that I ordered that cost a ridiculous amount is Standlee Orchard Grass and she likes that best. So I can mix the two to try and cut costs.

Mine will ignore the hay in the manger too unless he eats the hay in the litter boxes and then he turns to the manger. Maybe try putting a little less in the boxes (unless you are worried about litter habbits) and see if she gets hungry enough to seek out the manger. Is the manger by the litter box so she can still eat and poop? I think that if you mix it up enough she will stop choosing which she prefers. If she is healthy and gets hungry enough I would think she would eventually eat whatever you give her. But I’m not an expert. Mine didn’t like orchard grass at first and only liked the Timothy but over time he started to eat both when he realized he didn’t have a choice. I generally give him a mix of timothy and orchard. Both are oxbow brand at the moment.

Any luck with this yet, Kayota?
You could try giving less pellets if not

I don’t give much pellets, but like I said she likes the better quality hay more
