Well the date totally crept up on me-I'm just getting his stuff ready now, we head to the west end (about 1.5 hours from home!) for his dental tomorrow, have to be there at 8 am sharp -yikes! Maybe vibes for me too-as I'm out of coffee

I've taken the day and the day after off work so I can make sure he's doing well and eating.

Ruperts having malocclusion levelling tomorrow. I've asked for preanestetic blood work, and they are really good so I shouldn't worry-but who can help it! Please send vibes-I'll post an update tomorrow afternoon

Hoping for a smooth procedure and recovery for the boy.
You’ll have to go somewhere to keep yourself distracted (if possible!) while you wait.

Does he like Critical Care? I discovered Jersey loves it and it made life easier after her dental. She eats it right out the bowl.

Lots of healing vibes for little Rupert…
Don’t know if you are into alternate healing but you could hang some amber close to his cage or in a pouch under his bed and it will aid the healing, also Blue Calcite and/or place a piece of rose quartz or amethyst in his water crock..

                Thank you!!!

Procedure went great, we caught a bad mouth early on-malocclusion and molar spurs, no abscess but roots were elongated and likely what was causing the eye issue. They were great at that clinic.

Rupert is not doing well coming out of anesthetic, chilly and shivery. I phoned to see if that's normal (I thought it was, as I know my regular vet using heating pads during surgeries and after) and they confirmed it was and gave advice to warm him up (warm towels etc). So he's sitting with my pad I use for my back that gets heated in the microwave-the fact that he's letting me put something beside him shows he's not feeling well, and I'm warming towels in the drier. I also have a big space heater pointed at them and turned the house up to 24 C. Glad I took tomorrow off so I can stay up with him and monitor. I think all will be well, he's peeing and drinking, just cold. It should wear off with the heat, and coming out of the anesthetic.

I'll keep you posted on how the warming is going. Thanks for all the vibes!!

In other exciting news, my regular vet quit her job and started a HOME vet service. While I was waiting for Ruperts procedure she came to my parents house and did an exam and titres on Mikey-he was just so excited to see her outside of the clinic. I'm absolutely beside myself excited to know that rather then trying to deal with a clinic, if something is up I can just call and she'll come. I think regularly I'll drop the critters at my parents house as they live closer to town so it won't be such a drive for her. Mikey didn't mind going to the clinic but it was stressful for the rabbits, I'm so excited they won't have to go there again for exams and most procedures!! How wonderful to have a real vet come into your house to do treatments!!

Ah yes, Fiver tends to be shivery after dentals…I think Mimzy too, but he’s usually eating hay in the carrier on the way home and I keep the house too warm for him anyway, so he just sleeps the remainder of the day away and is better in a few days’ time.
Sending warming vibes for Rupert. How lucky are you for home visits?! I am so very jealous!
Was there a reason Mikey is staying with your folks? Have I missed something?
How has Kahlua been? Did she recover completely from her tilt?
Hope all is well there otherwise. Sorry I haven’t been in here much, I need to do some catch up.

Thanks Mimz!!! I’m so glad to know it’s normal -your more reassuring than calling the dental vet clinic back lol!
We just started the wood stove going so as soon as it’s melting hot, I’ll take Rupert to sit by it. He’s cuddled up under a towel with my heating pad by the space heater, not shivering but not angrily throwing the towel so he’s still chilly

Mikey was just at mom and dads because their dog (Mandy) passed this spring so they randomly go to my house and steal my dog for sleep overs-they took him yesterday so today after I dropped Rupert at the clinic I went to their house to pass the time and figured I would call my vet at her new home practice (she just started last week!) to see if she was in the area and had time-she made it that afternoon so it worked great!

Kahlua is great-to a layman she looks like nothing ever happened. I can tell she still has slight symptoms/damage, her balance is off if I pick her up and she holds one front paw farther back, but otherwise she’s right as rain (knock on wood!) -I got her and Rupert integrated back together the week before our wedding-she must have known I needed the decrease in stress because she just recovered and Rupert slowly accepted her back in their pen. WE did a few weeks of out time for visiting with short periods of time together in their run and about a week before the wedding they just got on like nothing had happened!

Oh wow… a lot has happened since I last checked in with you then. I’m glad that Kahlua is doing so much better. I think Mimzy does that odd thing with his feet too…sometimes they just go off at weird angles. I was afraid his bones were beginning to deteriorate so I’ve got him booked in for the 12th for a recheck, but I guess it’s just that his balance is still off. He has to have routine bloods run though, so I’m going to have an xray or two taken to be safe.

I hope Rupert is doing better. Thinking of you and the furbabies. xx

                          Thanks!!!

Rupert is doing awesome-he’s never recovered from stress induced poopy butt so quickly-but within 24 hours he has nice round poopies-how nice!! Now I’m kicking myself though-I was so nervous for the procedure I forgot to ask if they would clean his ears while he was under. He was never good at cleaning the ear on his bad leg side, but now as he’s aging he’s worse at it. So we’ll see if my vet can come over and do it!

Oh I identify with this so much, especially with Mimzy. He’s always chock full of earwax (actually they all are) and getting into his ears is one of the labors of Hercules. He’s still tilted enough that to watch him try to scratch his own ears is both funny and sad.
That must be so nice to have the vet visit you instead of the other way round. I am really, REALLY jealous! xD
