I just bought two jumbo litter boxes for my guy.  They are scatterless which means they have a wire grate on them that is removable.  I know wire cages are not good for his feet but what about a litter box? I like the idea because it keeps him from sitting in the wet litter, but I don't want to hurt his hocks…

I doubt it would be a problem cause it’s not like your bunny will be staying in his litter box all day. =)

I’m curious to find out if it actually works. Porky often kicks out a few poops hopping in and out of his litter box, but I don’t know if a bunny would use one of those. Porky seems to like his comfy box full of litter pellets and hay.

I use the screens sold at Binky Bunny for the same purpose. In addition the screen allows you to empty and change the hay placed on top of the screen more frequently then the liquid absorbing litter below. Personally I’d be reluctant to have them on wire at all, but a thick layer of hay on top would make it safer and better.

Ohhh, this is an interesting idea!
Let us know how this works!

Well he jumped on it and used it right away. We'll see how it goes.  If I cover the whole wire part with hay, not sure it would be scatterless or that he would avoid sitting in his urine. But I don't want him sitting on the wire so I'll play it by ear. I might just need to remove the wire and use the ltterbox as normal. I'll keep you posted!

Yep, grates on a litter box are fine. I use them in mine because my girl likes to dig out the litter. It does end up getting covered with hay pretty quickly anyway.
