I picked up my rabbit today and he’s over a year old and they have NEVER cut his nails. They were shocked when they got him out in the sunlight and saw his nails, which are over an inch long. I don’t know how to cut them as he hates to be held. Advice?

EDIT: Nevermind, since I’ve never done it before I decided to take him to the vet and have them show me how. I’m going to ask them to sex him too since the owners actually had no idea what his gender was and just called him a he.

EDIT2: I looked it up and managed to cut the nails and sex him… he’s a she. LOL

lol were her nails really that long? Anyhow since your rabbit is new to you, it’s still good to see the vet for an overall check up.

I’m going to the vet soon too, I have clipped Muffins nails before, but I’m still a nervous wreck, this time I’ll ask him to show me too!

It wasn’t very hard, I just flipped her upside down and did it. She was a lot calmer about it than my Chihuahua. I wrapped her in a piece of fleece except the foot I was working on and it helped a lot.

Oh gosh, Muffin punishes me every time I pick him up, flipping him on his back? My pillow is gonna be yellow XD

Thanks for the fleece tip, are you doing the bunny burrito? I heard that helps (Might be what your describing)

I actually just threw it over her and made sure her eyes were covered and then wrapped it under so the feet were caught. It took a couple tries but when I managed it worked out. Having her eyes/head covered helped her stay calm.
