Okay – to recap from last week – my beautiful female flemmie Jo-Jo passed away on Saturday after going into stasis after being spayed on tuesday. It was a terrible, painful death and I did not want to get another female because I just couldn ‘t put myself thru the worry of another spay. So after really missing having a bunny in the house, I called the breeder I got Jo from who said she had two males and to come and choose. Well, I saw their cute little faces and, of course, couldn’t choose, so now we are the proud parents of 5 week old brothers! My questions are: how likely is it that 2 males, even though they are brothers, will fight? I plan on having them neutered on the same day at the first signs of pubescent angst. How likely are they to be affectionate with the humans if they have eachother? Anything else I should know about boys? About pairs? All advice welcome!!

Hi Cheri… All buns are different some will bond permanently with siblings whether fixed or not, others won’t. Gender doesn’t really seem to make a difference either. Being together from the beginning I think helps and especially if you get them neutered early.

They are gorgeous… As to affections, I have a family group of four, I eventually hope to bond the whole tribe of 7.. But for now I get a great deal of affection off the two singularly housed boys whilst Nomnoms is not so concerned.. The family group however will have days when they want to just be with themselves and other days I will get mobbed by 4 attention seeking missiles intent on cuddles and mischief..

Aww! They are so adorable! Congrats!
I agree with Roberta. You’re setting yourself up for the best chance for success by having them together since birth and getting them neutered early (even before puberty shows its ugly head). That being said, there are no guarantees. Every bunny is different and sometimes personalities clash.

As for affection, it is hard to tell at this stage since babies tend to tolerate cuddling and attention. Some will suddenly “snap” one day and say “nope, I’m not having any of that”. While others won’t. From my experience (I have 2 boys that are closely bonded), they do tend to like attention from each other rather than from me. That doesn’t mean they don’t approach me looking for treats or pets. Although Wooly is holding a grudge right now from his medicine.

Thanks for the replies! Feel better already. Will def get them neutered early to preserve the bond.

Congrats on your new boys! They’re too cute!

They shouldn’t have anymore trouble bonding than any other pair of rabbits. As was already said, being together since birth can only help.

Just wanted to ask, how come the breeder let them go at 5 weeks old?

They were weaned and eating pellets… I don’t agree with it

I have 3 brothers and they’re literally best friends. They follow me in a little herd and groom each other and sleep squished up together. Saying that, they are still more interested in getting attention (and food) from me rather than each other. Hopefully yours will get on as well as mine do! They look SO cute!

                                I want those bunnies!

What cute babies.  They are lucky to have each other and you to spoil them rotten.

                              Good luck with them.
