I had just successfully bonded a trio of 3 neutered males, all approx. 2 yrs old. They have been bonded for 3 – 4 months. I went on vacation for 2 weeks and decided to board them at a animal hospital that I work at, the girls at work said they did fine for about a week and then a fight broke out and they didn’t know what to do but separate them. I brought them home today and they are fighting horribly, no blood shed just chasing and hair pulling. What do I do now?

Are they constantly fighting? Can you describe what you mean by “fighting horribly” and is this the same as what happened when they were boarded or was it different there? Did you have them before they were bonded and what were their personalities like?

The reason I’m asking some questions is that mines actually have horrible fights, tons of fur pulling that my carpet is covered with fur, chasing, grunting, swatting, etc which most people would take negatively. However, they are bonded; they just have a love hate relationship. That said, separating them during the boarding may have broken the bond rather than a bond just breaking. You may just have to start over with the bonding.

Because they were separated during boarding I think you will have to re-bond them. I would start over and move through the steps again. Hopefully it will go quicker for you the second time around!

I have them all together at home now and they are just chasing now, no hair pulling, they’re doing this every 10-15 minutes for about 3 seconds. The girls at work said they separated them when one of the rabbits had the other pinned down on his back and fur was flying everywhere. They were getting along just fine the first week they were there. Yes, they were bonded before for about 3-4 months.

When my two started doing that, I separated them for about a week and then let them see each other through a baby gate and they kinda rebonded over that week and I was able to reintroduce them. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to rebond.
