I have a couple questions about timothy hay. I had been using American Pet Diner 2nd cut timothy hay because that’s what the local house rabbit society sells. Well, I decided to stop driving all the way to the local house rabbit society and instead have the hay delivered to my house like I used to do. I really like American Pet Diner hay and have had it delivered to my house before but after searching for something with better prices I found Farmer Dave. Has anybody used Farmer Dave hay before? What did you think of it?

I also bought 1st cut timothy hay this time to try it out and see if my rabbits liked it. They do like it but I’m noticing they aren’t eating as much hay now.  Is this because it is higher in fiber? And I’m really not sure which is better for them, 1st cut or 2nd cut?

I’ve just tried out some hay from Farmer Dave’s. I got the 2nd cut with Clover and the 1st cut. Dobby LOVES the 2nd cut. He eats the first cut but doesn’t get nearly as excited about it. From what I’ve read, I think 1st cut is better for them because it is higher in fiber but that 2nd cut is just fine. The important thing is that they eat it, regardless of the cut. I know there are some folks who know more about hay on this site so they might have better information for you.

They hay itself looks and smells good to me. The order came very quickly. (I’m on the east coast.) And the 10 lb. box is a decent size and stuffed with hay. I am happy with them so far and will probably order from them again.

            Sorry to hijack:
Dobby, did you order any of the apple sticks? They have such a variety of tree branches (size and quantity) I’ve always wanted to order from FarmerDave but wasn’t sure about quality.

I did. I ordered some sticks and a couple of the toys. They looked perfectly good to me. However Dobby had no interest in them. But he has also had a willow bowl that I fill with hay and has never taken a bite of the willow so I think he’s just not that in to anything stick like.
