I cut my bun’s nails for the first time today, he did great he didnt growl or fuss or even get mad with me it was great I’m guessing his previous owners had done it before because his nails were’nt outragously long. I think I probubly could’ve cut them longer but it was my first time and I didnt want to risk cutting the kwik. I was wondering how short they should be and how often I should cut them. He’s about 8months old right now I’m guessing. I dont have any prior history as I found him dumped in a cardboard box.

They should be cut every 3~4 weeks (depending on how fast they grow for you bun) and if you can see the quick, you should be cutting a little past where the quick stops (because there are still nerves past where it is visible). If he doesn’t flinch or try to pull his foot back when you press down with the clippers than you aren’t cutting too far down. He will definitely let you know of you’re trying to cut too close.
